Abstract

Fuel Cell Technology has received a lot of attention in recent years due to growing concerns about the depletion of petroleum-based energy resources and climate change. The efficiency of fuel cells can reach up to 60% in the conversion of electrical energy and overall 80% in the co-generation of electricity and thermal energy. The Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) is most widely used among all other Fuel Cell systems. Bipolar plate is one of the important components in the Proton Exchange Membrane (PEMFC) fuel cell. The most important requirement for bipolar plate material is to resist corrosion well and have a high conductivity value. Corrosion control methods with corrosion inhibitors are one of the common methods and are developing very rapidly. Corrosion control using inhibitors can extend the life of the use of metals or alloys. The safest inhibitors to use are Green Inhibitors because they are non-toxic environmentally friendly. In this study using Arabic Gum inhibitors coated on SS316L using Electrophoretic Deposition (EPD) techniques. The content of polar atoms such as O, N, S, P on Arabic Gum can be naturally adsorbed as well as assisted by electric currents, forming layers that protect metal contacts with the environment. Using the electrochemical method with potentiodynamic polarization, the corrosion rate of SS316L 89, 537 mpy was obtained, after being protected using Arabic Gum inhibitors, the best corrosion rate reduction on 2.5 gr / L coating with a 60 minute EPD coating rate decreased to 69, 685 mpy and produce efficiency of 22, 17%. Keywords; PEMFC, Fuel Cell, SS316L, Arabic Gum, Electrophoretic Deposition Teknologi Fuel Cell telah menerima banyak perhatian dalam beberapa tahun terakhir karena pertumbuhan kekhawatiran tentang menipisnya sumber daya energi berbasis minyak bumi dan perubahan iklim. Efisiensi sel bahan bakar bisa mencapai hingga 60% dalam konversi energi listrik dan keseluruhan 80% dalam co-generasi listrik dan termal energi. Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) paling banyak digunakan diantara semua sistem Fuel Cell lainnya. Pelat bipolar adalah salah satu komponen penting dalam sel bahan bakar Proton Exchange Membran (PEMFC). Persyaratan paling penting untuk bahan bipolar plate adalah menahan korosi dengan baik dan memiliki nilai konduktivitas yang tinggi. Metode pengendalian korosi dengan inhibitor korosi merupakan salah satu metode yang umum dan berkembang sangat pesat. Pengendalian korosi menggunakan inhibitor mampu memperpanjang umur penggunaan logam atau alloy. Inhibitor yang paling aman digunakan adalah Green Inhibitor karena bersifat tidak beracun ramah lingkungan. Pada penelitian ini menggunakan inhibitor Arabic Gum yang dilapiskan pada SS316L menggunakan teknik Electrophoretic Deposition (EPD). Kandungan atom polar seperti O, N, S, P pada Arabic Gum dapat teradsorpsi secara alami maupun dibantu dengan arus listrik, membentuk lapisan yang melindungi kontak logam dengan lingkungan. Dengan menggunakan metode elektrokimia secara polarisasi potensiodinamik didapatkan laju korosi SS316L 89, 537 mpy setelah diproteksi menggunakan inhibitor Arabic Gum diperoleh nilai penurunan laju korosi terbaik pada pelapisan 2,5 gr/L dengan waktu pelapisan EPD 60 menit laju korosi mengalami penurunan menjadi 69, 685 mpy dan menghasilkan efisiensi sebesar 22, 17%.
