Abstract

Television is still one of the most popular media among the public, even though the segmentation of people who watched it is shifting. One of the television programs that is liked and attracted the audience's interest is MasterChef Indonesia Season 5. To attract the audience's interest, the creative team and promotion team of MasterChef Indonesia Season 5 must create an interesting concept that never be boring. This research aims to discover the use of gimmick in the MasterChef Indonesia season 5 program related to sound effects, illustrated music, suspense scenes, talent's expression and acting, jokes, editing techniques and camera movements. A reality show program is a program that tries to present a situation such as conflict, competition or relations based on actual reality. In other words, this program tries to present a real situation in a natural way without manipulation. Gimmick is a trick that is used to get the attention of the audience in the form of sound effects, illustrated music, suspense scenes, expression, talent's expression and acting, jokes, editing techniques and camera movements. The substance of "social media construction theory" is the rapid and wide circulation of information so that social construction takes place very quickly and is spread evenly. The constructed social reality also forms mass opinions, the masses tend to be a priori and the mass opinions tend to be cynical. This research uses a constructivist paradigm, where the opinion of the MasterChef Indonesia Season 5 program is a gimmick only. The method used is a case study by conducting in-depth interviews with three informants, as well as observing by watching an episode of the MasterChef Indonesia Season 5 program again. The results of this research indicate that the MasterChef Indonesia Season 5 program uses several gimmicks created by the production team. The gimmicks consist of Mystery Boxes, expressions some of the contestants directed by the production team so it can cause suspense scenes both fellow contestants and the judges, editing that adapt the moment and beauty shot of food so that it attracts the audience to watch this program. Keyword: Reality Show. Gimmick, Creative Analysis Televisi masih merupakan salah satu media yang digemari di kalangan masyarakat, meskipun segmentasi masyarakatnya bergeser. Salah satu program televisi yang disukai dan menarik minat audiens adalah MasterChef Indonesia Season 5. Untuk menarik minat penonton tentunya tim kreatif dan promosi MasterChef Indonesia Season 5 harus menciptakan konsep yang menarik dan tidak membosankan. Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mengetahui penggunaan gimmick di program MasterChef Indonesia season 5 yang terkait dengan sound effect, musik ilustrasi, adegan suspense, mimik ekspresi dan acting pemain, jokes (kelucuan), serta teknik editing dan pergerakan kamera. Program reality show adalah program yang mencoba menyajikan suatu situasi seperti konflik, persaingan atau hubungan berdasarkan realitas yang sebenarnya. Dengan kata lain, program ini mencoba menyajikan suatu keadaan yang nyata (riil) dengan cara yang sealamiah mungkin tanpa rekayasa. Gimmick adalah trik-trik yang digunakan untuk mendapatkan perhatian penonton dalam bentuk sound effect, musik ilustrasi, adegan suspense, mimik, ekspresi dan acting pemain, jokes (kelucuan), teknik editing dan pergerakan kamera. Substansi “teori konstruksi sosial media massa” adalah pada sirkulasi informasi yang cepat dan luas sehingga konstruksi sosial berlangsung dengan sangat cepat dan sebarannya merata. Realitas sosial yang terkontruksi itu juga membentuk opini massa, massa cenderung apriori dan opini massa cenderung sinis. Penelitian ini menggunakan paradigma konstruktivis, dimana pandangan terhadap program MasterChef Indonesia Season 5 ini adalah hanya gimmick semata. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi kasus dengan melakukan wawancara mendalam kepada tiga narasumber, serta melakukan observasi dengan menonton kembali episode program MasterChef Indonesia Season 5. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa program MasterChef Indonesia Season 5 menggunakan beberapa gimmick yang diciptakan oleh tim produksi. Gimmick-gimmick tersebut terdiri dari Mystery Box, mimik dan ekspresi beberapa kontestan yang diarahkan tim produksi sehingga bisa menyebabkan adegan suspense baik sesama kontestan maupun terhadap juri, editing yang menyesuaikan momen serta beauty shot makanan sehingga menarik audiens untuk menonton program ini.
