Abstract

Cost reduction as the key actions to be taken by one of the biggest local tire manufacturer in order to be survive or being a winner on the tight competition in tire market industry all over the world. The opportunity has been identified which is to reduce the COPQ by minimize the reject of tread extrusion. This research will focus on this key action improvement by using six sigma DMAIC approach as a well known effective methodology of problem solving method and had been used on many researchs previously. The design research methodology for this research is quantitative explorative which focus on the exploring the 4M analysis to find the root causes and defining the the solution. Started by Define phase, it was collected the data by sampling from jan - October 2017 and it was resulted 8.5% reject rate of tread due to length variation. Step 2: Measure, based on MSA Anaysis it found no variation on measurement and after calculate the capability process, the result of initial sigma level was 2.92. Step 3 Analyze, by using x-y map it was identified about 6 KPIV as the suspected the root causes. Some quality tools has been used to screening the most effected root causes to the KPOV and finally it was identified became 3 major KPIV as the most effected root causes. Step 4: Improve, DOE was done to define the setup parameter of 3 KPIV to get the best result of KPOV. Step 5: Control, After get the best setup parameter it was launched to the production and the result the reject was significantly decreasing from 8.5% to 1.6% with sigma level increase from 2.92 to 3.2. The cost saving get based on the above improvement is about 253.800 USD/year. Key words : Tire Manufacturing, Tread Extruder, Six sigma, DOE, Cost Saving. Cost Reduction sebagai salah satu kunci perbaikan yang diambil oleh sebuah perusahaan ban lokal terbesar untuk terus bisa bertahan maupun menjadi pemenang di ketatnya persaingan pasa industry ban seluruh dunia. Peluang itu sudah teridentifikasi, yaitu dengan mengurangi biaya COPQ dengan meminimalkan reject tread extruder. Penelitian ini akan berfokus pada key action improvement ini dengan menggunakan metode pendekatan six sigma DMAIC yang sudah dikenal sebagai metode problem solving paling efektif dan sudah banyak digunakan oleh banyak penelitian sebelum-sebelumnya. Desain penelitian yang dugunakan adalah berjenis kuantitatif explorative yang berfokus pada analisa 4M untuk mengetahui penyebab masalah dan mencari solusinya. Dimulai dengan langkah 1: Define, melalui pengumpulan data samapling bulan jan-oktober 2017 diketahui bahwa reject rate dari tread karena panjang variasi adalah sebesar 8.5%. Langkah 2: Measure, Dari hasil MSA tidak ditemukan adanya variasi pengukuran, dan setelah dihitung process capability-nya didapatkan inisial sigma levelnya adalah 2.92. Langkah 3: Analyze, melalui analisa x-y map diketahui teridentifikasi kemungkinan 6 macam KPIV sebagai penyebab. Bebarapa alat-alat kualitas digunakan untuk menyaring KPIV diatas dan hasilnya didapatkan 3 dari 6 KPIV tersebut yang menjadi penyebab utama akar masalah terjadinya reject. Langkah 4: Improve, DOE dilakukan untuk mencari setup proses parameter dari ketiga KPIV tersebut untuk mendapatkan hasil terbaik KPOV. Langkah 5: Control, Setelah mendapatkan setup parameter terbaik maka disosialisaikan ke produksi dan hasil setelahnya reject turun secara signifikan dari 8.5% menjadi 1.6% dengan sigma level naik dari 2.92 menjadi 3.2. Cost saving yang didapatkan dari perbaikan reject tread ini dihitung sebesar 253.800 USD/tahun. Kata kunci : Tire Manufaktur, Tread Extruder, Six sigma, DOE, Cost Saving.
