Abstract
The purpose of this research is to see the relationship of gadget addiction with the emotional intelligence at junior high school students in sub district Kecamatan Pesanggrahan South Jakarta. Subjects studied are junior high school students who are teenagers early age 11 to 15 years and attend school in the sub district Pesanggrahan South Jakarta. Probability Sampling method used in this research with the number of samples as much as 383 respondents. This study has a correlation coefficient value of -0.257 which indicates that the variable gadget addiction and emotional intelligence have a relationship that is not unidirectional. That is, the higher the gadget addiction will lower the emotional intelligence and vice versa if addicted gadeget the lower it will increase emotional intelligence. Keywords: Gadget Addiction, Emotional Intelligence, Early Youth Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat adanya hubungan kecanduan gadget dengan kecerdasan emosi siswa SMP Kecamatan Pesanggrahan Jakarta Selatan. Subjek yang diteliti adalah siswa SMP yang merupakan remaja awal usia 11 sampai dengan 15 tahun dan bersekolah di wilayah Kecamatan Pesanggrahan Jakarta Selatan. Metode Probability Sampling digunakan dalam penelitan ini dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 383 responden. Penelitian ini memiliki nilai koefisiensi korelasi sebesar -0,257 yang menunjukan bahwa variabel kecanduan gadget dan kecerdasan emosi memiliki hubungan yang tidak searah. Artinya, semakin tinggi kecanduan gadget maka akan menurunkan kecerdasan emosi dan sebaliknya jika kecanduan gadget semakin rendah maka akan meningkatkan kecerdasan emosi.
