Abstract
This study aims to find out and analyze how Broadcasting students at Mercu Buana University interpret the father figure in the film Perayaan Mati Rasa. Using Stuart Hall's communication theory, this qualitative research uses an audience reception analysis method to see how people construct their own meanings. The main data were collected through in-depth interviews with ten students and double-checked to ensure accuracy. The results show that the students' responses are divided into three groups. The first group fully agrees that the father's rigid parenting is a natural form of sacrifice. The second group is in the middle; they understand the father's role as a provider but criticize the lack of emotional closeness and one-way communication. The third group strongly rejects authoritarian parenting and criticizes old-fashioned views about masculinity that cause the child's "numbness" psychological condition. In conclusion, how audiences interpret a film is highly influenced by their personal backgrounds, and they hope that the father's role now involves more emotional warmth. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan menganalisis bagaimana mahasiswa Broadcasting Universitas Mercu Buana mengartikan sosok ayah dalam film Perayaan Mati Rasa. Menggunakan teori komunikasi Stuart Hall, penelitian kualitatif ini memakai metode analisis penerimaan khalayak (reception analysis) dengan pendekatan yang melihat bagaimana manusia membangun pemaknaan mereka sendiri. Data utama dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam dengan sepuluh mahasiswa, lalu diperiksa ulang agar datanya benar-benar valid. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tanggapan para mahasiswa terbagi menjadi tiga kelompok. Kelompok pertama setuju sepenuhnya bahwa cara mendidik ayah yang kaku adalah bentuk pengorbanan yang wajar. Kelompok kedua berada di tengah�tengah mereka memaklumi peran ayah sebagai pencari nafkah, tetapi mengkritik kurangnya kedekatan emosional dan komunikasi yang searah. Kelompok ketiga menolak keras cara mendidik yang serba mengatur dan mengkritik pandangan kuno tentang laki-laki yang memicu kondisi psikologis "mati rasa" pada anak. Kesimpulannya, cara penonton memaknai film sangat dipengaruhi oleh latar belakang pribadi mereka, dan mereka berharap peran ayah kini lebih melibatkan kehangatan perasaan.
