Abstract
This study aims to analyze the representation of Ferdinand Omakere's family communication style in the film Kaka Boss using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. As a medium of mass communication, film represents social and cultural realities through verbal and nonverbal signs. This research focuses on interpreting the communication style of an Eastern Indonesian family through the levels of denotation, connotation, and myth. This study employed an interpretive paradigm with a qualitative method. Data were collected through analizyng of selected scenes portraying family interactions in Kaka Boss. The units of analysis included dialogues, facial expressions, gestures, intonation, and visual settings, which were analyzed using Roland Barthes' semiotic model. Data validity was ensured through source, theory, and technique triangulation. The findings indicate that the film represents the communication style of Eastern Indonesian families through aggressive and assertive communication patterns that reflect responsibility, solidarity, respect for family, and self-esteem. Semiotic analysis shows that firm communication symbolizes not only authority but also affection and concern within the family. Furthermore, the film presents a more positive representation of Eastern Indonesian society by emphasizing strong family values and challenging longstanding negative stereotypes.
