Abstract
Film is an audiovisual medium capable of conveying messages, emotions, and experiences through the combination of visual and audio elements, allowing it to create emotional engagement between the audience and the story. In the filmmaking process, editing is a crucial stage because it plays an important role in establishing narrative rhythm, maintaining story continuity, organizing the relationship between visual and audio elements, and strengthening the emotional delivery intended for the audience. This final project aims to explain the role of the editor in conveying silence through the editing process of the short film Senandung sunyi, which explores themes of dreams, loss, family relationships, and acceptance in the main character’s life journey. The author served as the editor and was responsible for managing the entire post-production process, including file management, offline editing, online editing, sound mixing, color correction, color grading, and final rendering using Adobe Premiere Pro. The method used in this project was a creative production method with a descriptive approach, which describes each stage of the editing process based on the author’s experience during the production and post-production stages. In the editing process, the author applied continuity editing techniques by utilizing cutting, J-Cut, L-Cut, Cut on Emotion, Cross Dissolve, Dip to Black, Fade In/Fade Out, and Flash Transition to maintain story continuity while strengthening emotional delivery in each scene. The color grading process was carried out by first conducting color correction and then continuing with color grading in collaboration with the Director of Photography (DOP) to ensure visual consistency in accordance with the intended cinematic concept. Meanwhile, the sound mixing process involved adjusting dialogue, music, ambience, sound effects, and noise reduction to produce balanced audio quality and support the film’s dramatic atmosphere. The results of the editing process indicate that the implementation of these editing techniques successfully created a smoother narrative rhythm, strengthened the atmosphere of silence and emotional depth within the film, and supported the emotional development of the main character, enabling the themes of dreams, loss, sacrifice, and acceptance to be conveyed more effectively and emotionally to the audience. Keywords: Editing, Cutting, J-Cut, Short Film, Senandung sunyi Film merupakan media audio visual yang mampu menyampaikan pesan, emosi, dan pengalaman melalui perpaduan unsur gambar serta suara sehingga memiliki kekuatan untuk membangun keterlibatan emosional penonton terhadap sebuah cerita. Dalam proses pembuatannya, editing menjadi salah satu tahap yang sangat penting karena berperan dalam membangun ritme, menjaga kesinambungan alur cerita, mengatur hubungan antara visual dan audio, serta memperkuat penyampaian emosi yang ingin disampaikan kepada penonton. Tugas akhir ini bertujuan menjelaskan peran editor dalam menyampaikan kesunyian melalui proses penyuntingan pada film pendek Senandung sunyi, yang mengangkat tema tentang mimpi, kehilangan, hubungan keluarga, dan penerimaan terhadap perjalanan hidup tokoh utama. Penulis berperan sebagai editor yang bertanggung jawab mengelola seluruh proses pascaproduksi, mulai dari manajemen file, offline editing, online editing, sound mixing, color correction, color grading, hingga final rendering menggunakan Adobe Premiere Pro. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode penciptaan karya dengan pendekatan deskriptif, yaitu menguraikan seluruh tahapan penyuntingan berdasarkan pengalaman selama proses produksi dan pascaproduksi. Dalam proses editing, penulis menerapkan teknik continuity editing dengan memanfaatkan cutting, J-Cut, L-Cut, Cut on Emotion, Cross Dissolve, Dip to Black, Fade In/Fade Out, serta Flash Transition untuk menjaga kesinambungan cerita sekaligus memperkuat penyampaian emosi pada setiap adegan. Proses color grading dilakukan melalui tahapan color correction terlebih dahulu kemudian dilanjutkan dengan color grading bersama Director of Photography (DOP) agar tampilan visual tetap konsisten sesuai konsep sinematik yang telah dirancang. Sementara itu, sound mixing dilakukan melalui penyesuaian dialog, musik, ambience, efek suara, serta noise reduction guna menghasilkan kualitas audio yang seimbang dan mendukung suasana dramatik film. Hasil proses penyuntingan menunjukkan bahwa penerapan teknik editing tersebut mampu membangun ritme cerita yang lebih mengalir, memperkuat suasana kesunyian dan emosional dalam film, serta mendukung perkembangan karakter utama sehingga pesan mengenai mimpi, kehilangan, pengorbanan, dan penerimaan dapat tersampaikan secara lebih efektif dan menyentuh kepada penonton.
