Abstract
On February 17, 2025, a demonstration that attracted significant public attention took place. The demonstration, entitled "Indonesia Gelap" (Dark Indonesia), was initiated by the All-Indonesia Student Executive Board (BEM SI) as an expression of dissatisfaction with government policies perceived to be detrimental to the Indonesian people. Due to the considerable public attention surrounding the demonstration, Kompas.com became one of the media outlets that sought to provide its readers with the latest developments regarding the event. As one of Indonesia's leading mainstream media platforms and a trusted source of information, Kompas.com has the potential to shape public perception through the information it delivers. Therefore, an analysis of how Kompas.com framed the news regarding the Indonesia Gelap demonstration is necessary. This study employs a constructivist paradigm with a qualitative content analysis approach. The unit of analysis consists of five selected news articles published on the official Kompas.com website, chosen based on the diversity of perspectives presented on the demonstration and to examine how Kompas.com packaged each topic into news coverage. Each unit was analyzed using Pan and Kosicki's framing analysis model, which divides news framing into four main structures: syntactic, thematic, script, rhetorical, and graphical structures. The findings indicate that Kompas.com tended to introduce figures relevant to the demonstration at the beginning of its news reports to attract readers' attention, while drawing information from direct observation, field observation, and interviews with selected sources. Although the news articles fulfilled the essential news elements (What, Who, Where, When, Why, and How), Kompas.com tended to emphasize particular words that created an emotional impression, thereby shifting the primary focus of the coverage from a collective political movement to a social event with environmental impacts. Keywords: Framing, Pan & Kosicki, Indonesia Gelap, Demonstration. Pada 17 Februari 2025, terjadi sebuah aksi demonstrasi yang mendapat banyak perhatian dari publik. Aksi demonstrasi tersebut bertajuk “Indonesia Gelap”, digerakkan oleh Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa Seluruh Indonesia (BEM SI) sebagai bentuk ungkapan kekecewaan atas kebijakan-kebijakan pemerintahan yang dianggap merugikan rakyat Indonesia. Atas perhatian publik yang tertuju pada aksi tersebut, Kompas.com menjadi salah satu media yang berusaha menyajikan kondisi terbaru dari aksi demonstrasi tersebut kepada pembacanya. Kompas.com sebagai salah satu media arus utama yang menjadi sumber informasi andalan rakyat Indonesia memiliki pengaruh untuk membentuk persepsi berdasarkan informasi yang disampaikan kepada pembacanya. Maka dari itu, diperlukan sebuah analisis mengenai pembingkaian berita tentang aksi demonstrasi Indonesia Gelap di media digital Kompas.com. Penelitian ini menggunakan paradigma konstruktivisme dengan pendekatan kualitatif analisa isi. Unit analisis yang digunakan adalah 5 artikel berita pilihan yang diunggah oleh Kompas.com ke laman resminya, dengan pertimbangan keberagaman sudut pandang terhadap aksi demonstrasi dan melihat bagaimana Kompas.com mengemas masing-masing topik menjadi sebuah berita. Tiap unit kemudian dianalisa menggunakan teori analisa framing milik Pan & Kosicki yang membagi pembingkaian menjadi 4 struktur utama, yaitu; Struktur Sintaksis, Struktur Tematik, Struktur Skrip, Struktur Retoris, dan Struktur Grafis. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah Kompas.com cenderung menyelipkan tokoh yang relevan dengan aksi demonstrasi pada bagian awal pemberitaannya guna menarik perhatian pembaca, dengan mengambil tema atau sumber informasi baik dari pengamatan langsung, observasi, dan wawancara kepada tokoh-tokoh tertentu. Meskipun lengkap secara unsur berita (What, Who, Where, When, Why, dan How), Kompas.com cenderung menekankan beberapa kata yang membangun kesan emosional, sehingga menggeser topik utama pemberitaan dari gerakan politik yang kolektif ke peristiwa sosial yang berdampak pada lingkungan.
