Abstract
This study aims to determine the relationship between meaning of work and work engagement among Generation Z private sector employees in Jakarta. Meaning of work is defined as the extent to which an individual views their work as having positive meaning, shaping the meaning of life, and contributing to broader interests. Meanwhile, work engagement is a positive psychological state characterized by vigor, dedication, and absorption in work. This study used a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The study sample consisted of 225 Generation Z private sector employees obtained through accidental sampling. Data collection was conducted using the Work and Meaning Inventory (WAMI) and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9). Data analysis was performed using the Spearman correlation test and different tests in the form of Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis. The results showed a positive and significant relationship between meaning of work and work engagement (r = 0.509; p < 0.05) with a moderate strength of the relationship. This indicates that the higher the perceived meaning of work, the higher the employee's level of work engagement. Interdimensional analysis showed that the positive meaning dimension had the strongest correlation with dedication. A difference test showed no differences in meaning of work based on gender or highest level of education. However, there were differences in work engagement based on gender and overall differences based on highest level of education, albeit with small effect sizes. Thus, meaning of work plays a significant role as an internal psychological factor in increasing work engagement among Generation Z employees in the private sector. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara meaning of work dan work engagement pada karyawan swasta generasi Z di Jakarta. Meaning of work didefinisikan sebagai sejauh mana individu memandang pekerjaannya memiliki makna positif, mampu membentuk makna hidup, serta memberikan kontribusi bagi kepentingan yang lebih luas. Sementara itu, work engagement merupakan kondisi psikologis positif yang ditandai oleh vigor, dedication, dan absorption dalam bekerja. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain korelasional. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 225 karyawan swasta generasi Z yang diperoleh melalui teknik accidental sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan Work and Meaning Inventory (WAMI) dan Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9). Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan uji korelasi Spearman serta uji beda berupa mann-whitney u dan kruskal-wallis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat hubungan positif dan signifikan antara meaning of work dan work engagement (r = 0,509; p < 0,05) dengan kekuatan hubungan sedang. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa semakin tinggi meaning of work yang dirasakan, semakin tinggi pula tingkat work engagement karyawan. Analisis antar dimensi menunjukkan bahwa dimensi positive meaning memiliki korelasi terkuat dengan dedication. Uji beda menunjukkan tidak terdapat perbedaan meaning of work berdasarkan jenis kelamin maupun pendidikan terakhir. Namun, terdapat perbedaan work engagement berdasarkan jenis kelamin serta perbedaan secara umum berdasarkan pendidikan terakhir, meskipun dengan ukuran efek yang kecil. Dengan demikian, meaning of work berperan penting sebagai faktor psikologis internal dalam meningkatkan work engagement karyawan generasi Z di sektor swasta.
