Abstract

This applied final project aims to design a visual strategy for directors to critically represent the phenomenon of academic dishonesty, particularly the practice of assignment ghostwriting, through a documentary film titled “False Values: Behind the Scenes of Assignment Ghostwriting.” This documentary focuses on the variables of the director's visual planning and the deconstruction of reality as a conceptual basis for exposing the crisis of integrity in higher education. Visual planning is defined as the arrangement of cinematographic elements to construct meaning, while the deconstruction of reality is an attempt to expose the single narrative of academic value as a measure of achievement. As an applied work, this research involved five key informants as the main subjects selected through purposive sampling, consisting of one active jockey, one student user of the service, seven students, and two experts from academia. The method of creating the work was carried out through pre-production stages such as conducting research through observation, determining informants and treatment, and preparing a budget plan. During the production stage, the director ensured that all pre-production plans were carried out as planned, such as directing the informants to continue speaking reflectively in accordance with their respective characters. During the post-production stage, the director ensured that the editing process remained in line with the expository documentary approach. The documentary shows that the visual strategy was successfully implemented through the use of red lighting as a symbol of inner conflict, silhouette framing techniques to maintain anonymity, and different shooting styles between dynamic handheld shots for students and formal static shots for academics. This 25-minute documentary successfully presents a multidimensional narrative that raises ethical awareness. The conclusion of this design affirms that the role of the director is very important in deconstructing the social reality of education, where the practice of task jockeying is interpreted not merely as an individual violation, but as a symptom of a system failure that is too focused on achieving numbers. This work proves that cinematic visuality can serve as a bridge between academic research and social empathy, while also functioning as an effective tool for criticism in promoting value reform in the world of higher education in Indonesia. Karya tugas akhir aplikatif ini bertujuan untuk merancang strategi visual sutradara dalam merepresentasikan fenomena ketidakjujuran akademik, khususnya praktik jasa joki tugas, secara kritis melalui film dokumenter berjudul “Nilai Palsu: Dibalik Layar Joki Tugas”. Dokumenter ini menitikberatkan pada variabel perencana visualit sutradara dan dekonstruksi realitas sebagai landasan konseptual untuk membongkar krisis integritas di lingkungan perguruan tinggi. Perencana visual didefinisikan sebagai pengaturan elemen sinematografi untuk membangun makna, sementara dekonstruksi realitas merupakan upaya membongkar narasi tunggal mengenai nilai akademik sebagai tolak ukur prestasi. Sebagai karya aplikatif, penelitian ini melibatkan lima narasumber kunci sebagai subjek utama yang dipilih melalui teknik purposive sampling, terdiri dari satu orang pelaku joki aktif, satu orang mahasiswa pengguna jasa, tujuh orang mahasiswa, serta dua pakar dari pihak akademisi. Metode penciptaan karya dilakukan melalui tahapan pra-produksi seperti melakukan riset dengan cara observasi, menentukan narasumber, dan menentukan treatment, dan membuat rancangan anggaran. Pada tahapan produksi sutradara memastikan seluruh rancangan pada pra produksi berjalan sesuai rencana seperti mengarahkan para narasumber untuk tetap berbicara secara reflektif sesuai karakter masing-masing, dan pada tahap pasca-produksi sutradara menjaga proses editing agar tetap sesuai dengan pendekatan dokumenter gaya ekspositoris. Hasil dokumenter menunjukkan bahwa strategi visual berhasil diimplementasikan melalui penggunaan pencahayaan berwarna merah sebagai simbol konflik batin, teknik framing siluet untuk menjaga anonimitas, serta perbedaan gaya pengambilan gambar antara handheld yang dinamis untuk mahasiswa dan statis yang formal untuk akademisi. Film dokumenter berdurasi 25 menit ini berhasil menyajikan narasi multidimensi yang menggugah kesadaran etis. Kesimpulan dari perancangan ini menegaskan bahwa peran sutradara sangat penting dalam mendekonstruksi realitas sosial pendidikan, di mana praktik joki tugas diinterpretasikan bukan sekadar pelanggaran individu, melainkan gejala kegagalan sistem yang terlalu berorientasi pada pencapaian angka. Karya ini membuktikan bahwa visual sinematik dapat menjadi jembatan antara riset akademik dan empati sosial, sekaligus menjadi alat kritik yang efektif dalam mendorong reformasi nilai dalam dunia pendidikan tinggi di Indonesia.
