Abstract
The preservation of culture and the environment has become a crucial issue amid modernization and the exploitation of natural resources. PT Freeport Indonesia strives to build a positive image through the television program Kelana Indonesia, episode "Sinergi Alam Dari Timur Indonesia," which is uploaded on the Kompas TV YouTube channel. This research aims to uncover the preservation of culture and the environment that is constructed in the program using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. The subject of the research includes the episode "Sinergi Alam Dari Timur Indonesia," while the unit of analysis consists of audio-visual elements such as camera techniques, narration, and mise en scene. Data were collected through direct observation of the program and related literature studies, and then analyzed based on the concepts of denotation, connotation, and myth. This research reviews five previous studies, with the theoretical framework including Roland Barthes' semiotics applied to several advertisements and TV programs. Kompas TV and Freeport Indonesia uploaded the video on their YouTube channel with the aim of conveying messages to a broader public. The paradigm used in this research is the constructivist paradigm. This study applies a qualitative method with a semiotic analysis approach based on Roland Barthes. The unit of analysis consists of audio-visual elements such as image size, camera angles, narration, and mise en scene. This research shows that the signs of cultural and environmental preservation by Freeport Indonesia in the program "Kelana Indonesia," episode "Sinergi Alam Dari Timur Indonesia," are evident through visual and narrative elements. The program showcases the company's initiatives in preserving the culture of the Kamoro tribe and the environment surrounding its operational area. Visual representations, such as the positive expressions of Ibu Luluk and the dances with the Kamoro tribe, create a narrative of a harmonious relationship between the company and the community. Images of lush reclamation and tree planting activities emphasize Freeport's efforts in environmental rehabilitation, serving to dispel negative stigma regarding the impacts of mining. The myths constructed reinforce the narrative of harmony between the company, the community, and the environment, even though mining activities continue to damage ecosystems and significantly alter landscapes. PT Freeport Indonesia berupaya membangun citra positif melalui program televisi Kelana Indonesia episode “Sinergi Alam Dari Timur Indonesia,” yang diunggah di kanal YouTube Kompas TV. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap pelestarian budaya dan lingkungan yang dikonstruksi dalam tayangan tersebut dengan menggunakan pendekatan semiotika Roland Barthes. Subjek penelitian mencakup episode “Sinergi Alam Dari Timur Indonesia,” sementara unit analisis terdiri dari elemen audio-visual seperti teknik pengambilan gambar, narasi, dan mise en scene. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi langsung terhadap tayangan serta studi literatur terkait, kemudian dianalisis berdasarkan konsep denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos. Penelitian ini mengkaji lima penelitian terdahulu, dengan kajian teoritis meliputi Semiotika Roland Barthes pada beberapa iklan dan program TV. Kompas TV dan Freeport Indonesia mengunggah video tersebut pada kanal YouTube dengan tujuan untuk menyampaikan pesan kepada publik yang lebih luas. Paradigma yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah paradigma konstruktivis. Penelitian ini menerapkan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan analisis semiotika Roland Barthes. Unit analisis terdiri dari elemen audio-visual seperti ukuran gambar, sudut pengambilan gambar, narasi, dan mise en scene. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa tanda pelestarian budaya dan lingkungan oleh Freeport Indonesia dalam program "Kelana Indonesia" episode "Sinergi Alam Dari Timur Indonesia" terlihat melalui elemen visual dan naratif. Program ini menampilkan inisiatif perusahaan dalam melestarikan budaya Suku Kamoro dan lingkungan sekitar area operasionalnya. Representasi visual, seperti ekspresi positif dari Ibu Luluk dan tarian bersama Suku Kamoro, menciptakan narasi hubungan harmonis antara perusahaan dan masyarakat. Gambar reklamasi yang subur dan aktivitas penanaman pohon menekankan upaya Freeport dalam rehabilitasi lingkungan, berfungsi untuk menepis stigma negatif terhadap dampak pertambangan. Mitos yang terbentuk memperkuat narasi harmonisasi antara perusahaan, masyarakat, dan lingkungan, meskipun aktivitas pertambangan tetap merusak ekosistem dan mengubah lanskap secara signifikan.
