Abstract
This study investigates the relationship between self-control and academic burnout among working students at University X in West Jakarta. The research subjects comprised 202 students who are balancing work while completing their final projects. A quantitative method with a correlational approach was employed, and data were collected through questionnaires to measure self-control and academic burnout. The academic burnout measurement instrument was adapted from the dimensions proposed by Baron and Greenberg (1990), while the self-control scale was based on the dimensions outlined by Tangney et al. (2004), which were further refined and expanded based on the research by Setyaputri et al. (2022) and Manapat et al. (2021). The reliability test results indicated Cronbach's Alpha values of 0.974 for academic burnout and 0.968 for self-control. Data analysis using correlation tests revealed a significant negative relationship (r = -0.530, p < 0.001) between self-control and academic burnout. These findings suggest that higher self-control can reduce levels of academic burnout. In conclusion, the development of self-control is an important step in mitigating academic burnout among working students who are completing their final projects. Keywords: academic burnout, self-control, working students. Penelitian ini mengkaji hubungan antara self-control dan burnout akademik pada mahasiswa bekerja Universitas X di Jakarta Barat. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari 202 mahasiswa yang bekerja sambil menyelesaikan tugas akhir. Metode kuantitatif dengan pendekatan korelasional digunakan, dan data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner untuk mengukur self-control dan burnout akademik. Instrumen pengukuran burnout akademik diadaptasi dari dimensi yang dikemukakan oleh Baron dan Greenberg (1990), dan skala self-control mengacu pada dimensi yang dikemukakan oleh Tangney et al. (2004), yang telah disesuaikan dan diperluas berdasarkan penelitian oleh Setyaputri et al. (2022) dan Manapat et al. (2021). Hasil uji reliabilitas menunjukkan nilai Cronbach's Alpha masing-masing 0,974 untuk burnout akademik dan 0,968 untuk self-control. Analisis data menggunakan metode uji korelasi menunjukkan adanya hubungan negatif dan signifikan (r = - 0,530, p < 0,001) antara self-control dan burnout akademik. Temuan ini mengindikasikan self-control yang tinggi dapat mengurangi tingkat burnout akademik. Kesimpulannya, pengembangan self-control merupakan langkah penting untuk mengurangi burnout akademik pada mahasiswa kelas karyawan yang sedang menyelesaikan tugas akhir.
