Abstract
The developmental period in early adulthood requires a person to have intimate relationships and closeness with others, but in reality not a few individuals have a fear of establishing deep closeness. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-compassion and fear of intimacy in early adulthood in DKI Jakarta. This study used a quantitative method with a non-probability sampling technique, obtained by respondents as many as 203 early adult individuals in DKI Jakarta who had been in a romantic relationship. The results of the analysis using the spearman's rho correlation coefficient analysis method showed that there was a negative relationship between self-compassion and fear of intimacy in early adulthood in DKI Jakarta as evidenced by the results of a correlation coefficient value of -0.655 using the SPSS 25.0 program which means that the higher the selfcompassion possessed by early adult individuals, the lower the fear of intimacy possessed and vice versa. Researchers hope that the results of this study can be used as learning materials to be able to develop self-compassion in themselves, especially early adult individuals who have feelings of fear to establish romantic relationships or fear of having closeness with someone. Keyword: Self-Compassion, Fear of Intimacy, Early Adulthood Masa perkembangan di usia dewasa awal menuntut seseorang untuk memiliki hubungan dan kedekatan yang intim dengan orang lain, namun kenyataannya tidak sedikit individu yang memiliki ketakutan untuk menjalin kedekatan yang dalam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara self-compassion dengan fear of intimacy pada dewasa awal di DKI Jakarta. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan teknik sampling non-probability sampling, didapatkan responden sebanyak 203 individu dewasa awal di DKI Jakarta yang pernah menjalin hubungan romantis. Hasil analisis dengan metode analisis spearman’s rho correlation coefficient menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan negatif antara selfcompassion dengan fear of intimacy pada dewasa awal di DKI Jakarta yang dibuktikan dengan hasil nilai koefisien korelasi sebesar -0,655 menggunakan program SPSS 25.0 yang artinya semakin tinggi self-compassion yang dimiliki individu dewasa awal maka akan semakin rendah fear of intimacy yang dimiliki dan begitupun sebaliknya. Peneliti berharap hasil penelitian ini dapat digunakan sebagai bahan pembelajaran untuk bisa mengembangkan self-compassion pada diri sendiri terutama individu dewasa awal yang memiliki perasaan takut untuk menjalin hubungan romantis atau takut memiliki kedekatan dengan seseorang.
