Abstract

The rise of toxic relationships experienced by young adults has had various negative impacts on their lives, and in some cases, has even caused quite deep trauma. Forgiveness is often carried out as an effort to overcome this so that the victim is able to live a normal life without the shadow of the trauma they have felt. In realizing forgiveness itself, assistance from emotional regulation is needed which involves the cognitive and expressive functions of each individual to review the decisions they want to make regarding negative things that happen to them. This research aims to determine the relationship between emotional regulation and forgiveness in early adults in DKI Jakarta who have experienced a toxic relationship. This research uses quantitative methods. The respondents involved in this research were 233 young adults who had experienced a toxic relationship, obtained using a data collection technique, namely purposive sampling. The results of the analysis using the Pearson's Correlation Coefficient analysis method show that there is a positive relationship between emotional regulation and forgiveness in early adults who have experienced a toxic relationship as evidenced by the correlation coefficient value of 0.341, which means that the higher the emotional regulation, the higher the forgiveness. that can be given. Keywords: Emotion Regulation, Forgiveness, Early Adulthood, Toxic Relationship Maraknya toxic relationship yang pernah dirasakan oleh dewasa awal menimbulkan berbagai dampak negatif di kehidupannya bahkan pada beberapa kasus menyebabkan trauma yang cukup mendalam. Seringkali forgiveness dilakukan sebagai salah satu upaya untuk mengatasi hal tersebut agar korban mampu menjalani kehidupan dengan normal tanpa bayang-bayang trauma yang pernah dirasakannya. Dalam mewujudkan forgiveness itu sendiri diperlukan bantuan dari regulasi emosi yang melibatkan fungsi kognitif dan ekspresif dari tiap individu untuk menijau kembali keputusan-keputusan yang hendak diberikan terhadap beberapa hal negatif yang terjadi pada dirinya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara regulasi emosi dengan forgiveness pada dewasa awal di DKI Jakarta yang pernah menjalani toxic relationship. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif. Responden yang terlibat di dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 233 dewasa awal yang pernah menjalani toxic relationship yang didapat dengan Teknik pengambilan data yaitu purposive sampling. Hasil analisis dengan metode analisis Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan yang positif antara regulasi emosi dengan forgiveness pada dewasa awal yang pernah menjalani toxic relationship yang dibuktikan dengan hasil nilai koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,341 yang artinya bahwa semakin tinggi regulasi emosi yang dimiliki maka semakin tinggi pula forgiveness yang dapat diberikan.
