Abstract

This research is entitled New Era Journalism: Jawapos Media Convergence in Facing Media Competition. The aim of the research is to find out the working patterns of the Jawapos editorial team in the era of convergence and the convergence model in the newsroom sector that is suitable for use in Jawapos. The research method is descriptive qualitative with case studies within the editorial scope of Jawapos. This research aims to see how many conventional media have changed their business patterns to the digital world, making competition between media increasingly increasing. In addition, several groups predict that conventional media, one of which is print media, will be displaced by digital-based media technology. The fate of print media in Indonesia is not much different. Therefore, digital culture inevitably makes mass media competitors compete to innovate both in the fields of content and technology to welcome and compete with other onlinebased companies. Furthermore, internet technology also influences changes and developments in mass media organizations. The reason is, the internet makes it easy for people to search for information. Today's people do not need to wait for information from conventional media such as newspapers or television. The existence of the internet makes it easier for people to find ways to read and obtain information. Changes in the way people search for information and use media require conventional mass media managers to adapt by implementing convergence. Then we look at the conditions at JawaPos before the convergence of independent news production by three platforms, namely newspapers, online and television. Each platform produces content according to its own media needs. The final content output can be used by different platforms. Jawa Pos does not carry out newsroom convergence (physically) because it requires additional investment with almost the same results as content production integration. For this reason, Jawa Pos chose a convergence model in the form of integration of content production and content sharing between platforms. The establishment of Jawa Pos Media was to respond to the challenge of media convergence through the consolidation of a number of media platforms which were initially controlled directly by Jawa Pos Holding, namely Jawa Pos Koran, Jawa Pos Radar, JawaPos.com, and Jawa Pos TV. To adapt to the characteristics, conditions and challenges faced, Jawa Pos Media applies a newsgathering convergence model. Keywords: Newsroom Convergence, Media consumption patterns, News Production, Content Sharing, Newsgathering Penelitian ini berjudul tentang Jurnalisme EraBaru: Kovergensi Media Jawapos Dalam Menghadapi Persaingan Media. Tujuan dalam penelitian untuk mengetahui untuk mengetahui pola kerja redaksi jawapos di era konvergensi dan model konvergensi di sektor news room yang cocok digunakan di Jawapos. Metode penelitian adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan studi kasus dalam lingkup redaksi Jawapos. Penelitian ini bermaksud melihat bagaimana media konvensional banyak yang merubah pola bisnisnya ke dunia digital membuat persaingan antar media semakin meningkat. Ditambah lagi dengan beberapa kalangan yang meramalkan media konvensional salah satunya media cetak bakal tergusur oleh teknologi media yang berbasis digital. Nasib media cetak di Indonesia pun tidak jauh berbeda. Oleh karena itu, budaya digital mau tidak mau membuat para kompetitor media massa berlomba-lomba berinovasi baik dalam bidang konten maupun teknologi untuk menyambut dan bersaing dengan para perusahaan berbasis online lainnya. Selanjutnya, teknologi internet juga turut mempengaruhi perubahan dan perkembangan organisasi media massa. Pasalnya, internet memberikan kemudahan kepada masyarakat dalam pencarian informasi. Masyarakat saat ini tidak perlu menunggu informasi dari media konvensional seperti surat kabar atau televisi. Keberadaan internet membuat masyarakat mendapatkan cara agar dapat lebih mudah untuk membaca dan mendapatkan informasi. Perubahan cara masyarakat dalam mencari informasi dan menggunakan media menuntut pengelola media massa konvensional harus melakukan adaptasi dengan melakukan konvergensi. Lalu kita lihat kondisinya di JawaPos sebelum konvergensi produksi berita secara mandiri oleh tiga platform, yakni koran, online, dan televisi. Masing-masing platform memproduksi konten sesuai kebutuhan media sendiri. Hasil akhir konten dapat digunakan oleh platform yang berbeda. Jawa Pos tidak melakukan konvergensi newsroom (secara fisik) karena membutuhkan investasi tambahan dengan hasil yang hampir sama dengan integrasi produksi konten. Karena itu, Jawa Pos memilih model konvergensi berupa integrasi produksi konten dan content sharing antarplatform. Pendirian Jawa Pos Media tersebut untuk merespon tantangan konvergensi media melalui konsolidasi sejumlah platform media yang awalnya dikendalikan langsung oleh Jawa Pos Holding, yakni Jawa Pos Koran, Jawa Pos Radar, JawaPos.com, dan Jawa Pos TV. Untuk menyesuaikan dengan karakteristik, kondisi, dan tantangan yang dihadapi, Jawa Pos Media menerapkan model konvergensi newsgathering.
