Abstract
The Surrealism art flow seems to be disappear at World War II. The fact there is still many representation of surrealism still exist until nowadays on social media platforms. Surrealism is the art of contradiction between subconscious mind and reality and has its own interpretation. The Red Hot Chili Peppers is the Californian rock band which just release their newest single video clip called Black Summer. This research are made to know the interpretation of symbol and sign of surrealism. This is a qualitative descriptive research using the Charles Sanders Peirce Semiotic analysis method. Piecre devide the main component into three main sub known as representment, object, and interpretation in process of signification. The unit analyzed are pieces of images from the Black Summer video clip. The result shows that the official video of Black Summer contain the representation of surrealism with elements of paradoxcia, rejection of norm, collaboration experiment, kontradiction, and dreaming element. Through the nonverbal communication, the objects contained in video show us the elements of surrealism that gives massage to people to maintaining ecosystem sustainability and expressing concern for the drought and forest fire that hit Australia. Keywords: Surrealism, Black Summer, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Peirce’s Semiotic Aliran kesenian surealisme disinyalir sudah punah ketika perang dunia dua berakhir. Namun faktanya karya seni beraliran surealisme masih banyak sekali di temukan pada platform digital era sekarang. Surealisme merupakan seni yang menampilkan kontradiktif antara kehidupan nyata dan imajinasi alam bawah sadar namun memiliki makna tersendiri disetiap karyanya. Red Hot Chili Peppers merupakan band rock asal California, Amerika Serikat yang merilis video klip lagunya berjudul Black Summer. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui makna dari symbol dan tanda representasi surrealisme. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode analisis semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce. Peirce membagi komponen utama menjadi tiga yaitu representamen, objek, dan interpretan dalam proses signifikasi. Unit yang dianalisis berupa potongan – potongan gambar dari video klip Black Summer. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa dalam video klip lagu Black Summer terdapat representasi seni surealisme dengan unsur paradoxcia, penolakan terhadap norma, kolaborasi eksperimen, kontradiktif, dan elemen bermimpi. Melalui komunikasi non verbal, object gambar yang terdapat dalam video tersebut mengandung unsur – unsur surealisme memberikan pesan pada khalayak untuk menjaga kelestarian ekosistem dan bentuk keprihatinan terhadap kemarau dan kebakaran hutan yang melanda Australia.
