Abstract
This study aims to measure and explain the influence of students' cultural intelligence (CQ) on the ability to deal with intercultural communication barriers. The variables examined in this study are cultural intelligence (CQ) and intercultural communication barriers. Barriers to intercultural communication are anything that becomes a barrier to effective intercultural communication. Cultural Intelligence (CQ) is an individual's ability to function effectively in the context of cultural diversity. This study uses the theory of Anxiety/Uncertainty Management Theory and the theory of Face Negotiation. As well as using theoretical studies of 3 (three) models of intercultural communication; the Bennett model, Knapp's Staircase model, and the Antecedent & Consequent Process model. This research method uses a quantitative approach with a causal research design and survey methods as a guide. The sample in this study was 100 students who were taken using the Proportional Stratified Random Sampling Technique from 6 (six) faculties at Mercu Buana University, Jakarta. This study uses simple linear regression analysis techniques and hypothesis testing (t) in the data analysis method. The results of this study prove that there is an influence of variable X (Cultural Intelligence) on variable Y (Barriers to Intercultural Communication of 55.8% with a t count value of 11,116 > t table 1,984 with a significance value of 0.001 <0.05. Keywords: Cultural Intelligence (CQ), Barriers to Intercultural Communication, Students, Bennet's Model, Knapp's Staircase Model Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur dan menjelaskan pengaruh cultural intelligence (CQ) mahasiswa terhadap kemampuan menghadapi hambatan komunikasi antar budaya. Variabel yang diteliti dalam penelitian ini adalah cultural intelligence (CQ) dan hambatan komunikasi antar budaya. Hambatan komunikasi antar budaya merupakan segala sesuatu yang menjadi penghalang untuk terjadinya komunikasi antar budaya yang efektif. Cultural Intelligence (CQ) merupakan kemampuan individu untuk tetap berfungsi secara efektif ditengah konteks keberagaman budaya. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Anxiety/ Uncertainty Management Theory dan teori Negosiasi Wajah. Serta menggunakan kajian teoritis 3 (tiga) model komunikasi antar budaya; model Bennet, model Staircase Knapp, dan model Proses Anteseden & Konsekuen. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian kausal dan metode survey sebagai pedoman. Sampel dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 100 mahasiswa yang diambil menggunakan Teknik Proportional Stratified Random Sampling dari 6 (enam) fakultas yang ada di Universitas Mercu Buana Jakarta. Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik analisis regresi linear sederhana dan uji hipotesis (t) dalam metode analisis data. Hasil penelitian ini membuktikan terdapatnya pengaruh variabel X (Cultural Intelligence) terhadap variabel Y (Hambatan Komunikasi Antar Budaya sebesar 55.8% dengan perolehan nilai t hitung sebesar 11.116 > t tabel 1.984 dengan nilai signifikansi sebesar 0.001< 0.05.
