Abstract
This research was conducted because of the similarities between the film “Joker 2019 by Todd Philips” and the social realities that exist in today's life, namely regarding social conflicts, mental health and attitudes and behavior towards the social environment. This study aims to determine the student's interpretation of the message contained in the 2019 Joker film by Todd Philips. In this study, researchers looked for facts on how students understand the messages contained in the 2019 Joker film by Todd Philips. This research uses Grounded Theory method, Constructivism Paradigm and Descriptive - Qualitative research type with an inductive approach. Sample size uses the concept of data saturation, with data collection techniques through interviews and library research. Then the data analysis technique uses the open coding type, and the data validity checking technique uses an audit trail. This research resulted in nine codes, which consisted of not harboring problems, instilling kindness, how to judge, caring, the dangers of mental illness, imperfect humans, don't bully, don't condescend, happiness is not bought. And then simplify it to produce three themes. The three themes consist of egalitarian attitudes, the importance of mental health and sympathy. Penelitian ini dilakukan karena adanya kesamaan antara film “Joker 2019 karya Todd Philips” dengan realita sosial yang ada dikehidupan saat ini, yaitu mengenai konflik sosial, kesehatan mental maupun sikap dan perilaku terhadap lingkungan bermasyarakat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui interpretasi mahasiswa terhadap pesan yang terdapat di film Joker 2019 karya Todd Philips. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti mencari fakta bagaimana mahasiswa dalam memahami pesan yang terdapat di film Joker 2019 Karya Todd Philips. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Grounded Theory, Paradigma Konstruktivisme dan Tipe penelitian Deskriptif – Kualitatif dengan pendekatan Induktif. Ukuran Sampel menggunakan konsep Kejenuhan Data, dengan Teknik Pengumpulan Data melalui wawancara dan riset kepustakaan. Kemudian Teknik Analisis Data menggunakan tipe Koding Terbuka, dan Teknik Pemeriksaan Keabsahan Data menggunakan Jejak Audit. Penelitian ini menghasilkan sembilan koding, yaitu terdiri dari jangan memendam masalah, tanamkan kebaikan, cara menilai, keperdulian, bahaya penyakit mental, manusia tidak sempurna, jangan membully, jangan merendahkan, kebahagiaan tidak dibeli. Dan kemudian di sederhanakan hingga menghasilkan tiga tema. Tiga tema tersebut terdiri dari sikap egaliter, pentingnya kesehatan mental dan bersimpati.
