Abstract

The reason the researcher took the title "North Sumatra regional library interior design with the application of universal design concepts" is to overcome the problem of the importance of applying universal design concepts to public spaces, including libraries. Library, is an institution that manages collections of written, printed and recorded works in a professional manner with a standard system to meet the educational, research, preservation, information and recreational needs of the users. In addition, researchers also want to design a library that has facilities that accommodate and help users' activities to carry out daily activities comfortably. The writing method used is a qualitative method which includes data collection, field survey, observation and documentation, which aims to find out how far the universal design concept exists in the North Sumatra Regional library. The purpose of this research is to solve problems in the interior, and to find out the interior elements in the library. Keywords : Libraries, Persons with Disabilities, Universal design. Alasan peneliti mengambil judul “Perancangan interior perpustakaan daerah Sumatra Utara dengan penerapan konsep desain universal” adalah untuk mengatasi masalah tentang pentingnya penerapan konsep desain universal pada ruang publik, termasuk pepustakaan. Perpustakaan, adalah institusi pengelola koleksi karya tulis, karya cetak dan karya rekam secara profesional dengan sistem yang baku guna memenuhi kebutuhan pendidikan, penelitian, pelestarian, informasi dan rekreasi para pemustaka. Selain itu peneliti juga ingin mendesain sebuah perpustakaan yang memiliki fasilitas yang mewadahi dan membantu aktifitas pengguna untuk melakukan kegiatan sehari-hari dengan nyaman. Metode penulisan yang di gunakan adalah metode kualitatif yang meliputi pengumpulan data, survey lapangan, obsrvasi dan mendokumentasi, yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui seberapa jauh konsep desain univarsal yang ada pada perpustakaan Daerah Sumatra Utara. Tujuan penelitian adalah memecahkan masalah pada interior, dan mengetahui elemen-elemen interior yang ada pada perpustakaan. Kata Kunci : Perpustakaan, Penyandang Disabilitas, Desain universal.
