Abstract

Intercultural communication does not only take place in the community but also occurs in the campus environment or educational environment which also consists of a group of people who have different cultures. One example is in several campuses located in Bandung, West Java which of course contains many students from various regions with different cultures. Within the campus environment, there must be interaction between fellow students or other elements of education that exist within the campus. Interaction here of course can be done easily by communicating. This research aims to find out how the process of intercultural communication occurs for students from Jakarta who study in Bandung to find answers to the success or failure of the adaptation process to the university environment in Bandung. This study uses the basis of the Communication Process Theory according to Harold Lasswell which describes the communication process with Who says what In which Channel To Whom With What Effect. The paradigm in this research is Constructivism, with a case study qualitative research method. The research subjects consisted of three students from Jakarta who studied in Bandung, and three students from Bandung. The primary data collection technique was carried out by in-depth interviews. Data analysis technique in this research is qualitative data analysis technique. The results in this study indicate that the process of intercultural communication that occurs in students from Jakarta who study in Bandung with students from Bandung is still conveyed well even though there are a few misunderstandings but it does not cause big problems. The communication process is carried out using Indonesian. In adapting, the students from Jakarta were declared successful. This can be measured from the acceptance of students from Bandung with students from Jakarta and the time period for the adaptation process of students from Jakarta is still in the adaptation period according to the u-curve theory. Keywords : Communication Process, Intercultural Communication, Adaptation Komunikasi Antarbudaya tidak hanya berlangsung di lingkungan masyarakat melainkan juga terjadi di dalam lingkungan kampus atau lingkungan pendidikan yang didalamnya juga terdiri dari sekumpulan orang – orang yang memiliki budaya yang berbeda – beda. Salah satu contohnya adalah di beberapa kampus yang berlokasi di Bandung, Jawa Barat yang tentu didalamnya terdapat banyak mahasiswa dari berbagai asal daerah dengan budaya yang berbeda - beda. Di dalam lingkungan kampus pastinya terjadi interaksi antar sesama mahasiswa ataupun elemen – elemen pendidikan lainnya yang ada didalam kampus tersebut. Interaksi disini tentunya dapat dilakukan dengan mudah dengan cara berkomunikasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana terjadinnya proses komunikasi antarbudaya Mahasiswa asal Jakarta yang berkuliah di Bandung hingga menemukan jawaban atas berhasil atau tidaknya proses adaptasi dengan lingkungan universitas di Bandung. Penelitian ini menggunakan landasan Teori Proses Komunikasi menurut Harold Lasswell yang menggambarkan proses komunikasi dengan Who says what In which Channel To Whom With What Effect. Paradigma dalam penelitian ini adalah Konstruktivisme, dengan metode penelitian Kualitatif Studi Kasus. Subyek penelitian terdiri dari tiga mahasiswa asal Jakarta yang berkuliah di Bandung, dan tiga orang Mahasiswa asal Bandung. Teknik pengumpulan data primer dilakukan dengan wawancara mendalam. Teknik analisis data dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik analisis data Kualitatif. Hasil dalam penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa proses komunikasi antarbudaya yang terjadi pada mahasiswa asal Jakarta yang berkuliah di Bandung dengan mahasiswa asal Bandung tetap tersampaikan dengan baik meskipun terdapat sedikit kesalahpahaman namun tidak menyebabkan masalah besar. Proses komunikasi dilakukan dengan menggunakan bahasa Indonesia. Dalam beradaptasi, para mahasiswa asal Jakarta dinyatakan berhasil. Hal ini dapat diukur dari penerimaan para mahasiswa asal Bandung dengan adanya mahasiswa asal Jakarta dan jangka waktu proses adapatasi para mahasiswa asal Jakarta masih dalam jangka waktu adaptasi menurut teori u-curve.
