Abstract

This research aims to examine and analyze the influence of profitability, firm size, firm growth, tangibility, liquidity, and business risk toward capital structure on basic materials companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. This study uses annual data for the period of observations from the year 2016 up to the year 2020. The data used is the data panel which is a combination of data annual time sort and cross section. Its population is the whole basic materials company listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange years 2016 to 2020 a host of 42 companies. Sampling techniques using a purposive sampling, found samples of as much as 26 company with 5 years of observations so that the retrieved a total of observation as much as 130. Data obtained from the Indonesia Stock Exchange. Data analysis in this research is the regression of the data panel. The model used is a Fixed Effect Model. The results of the analysis indicate that profitability negative effect to capital structure that supports the Pecking Order Theory. Firm size, tangibility, and business risk positive effect to capital structure that supports the Trade-off Theory. While the firm growth and liquidity have no effect to capital structure on basic materials sector in Indonesia Stock Exchange. In determining the funding policy according to the results of the firm's research, first it is recommended to analyze the firm's risk, the use of debt will cause business risk to increase. And profitability needs to be observed from the previous period so that it can make an accurate comparison to determine the best source of funding for the firm. Profitable firms should use lower debt. Keywords: capital structure, financial ratios, basic materials sector, fixed effect model, trade-off theory. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji serta menganalisis pengaruh profitabilitas, ukuran perusahaan, pertumbuhan perusahaan, struktur aset, likuiditas dan risiko bisnis terhadap struktur modal pada perusahaan sektor Barang Baku yang terdaftar di Bursa Efek Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan data tahunan untuk periode observasi dari tahun 2016 sampai dengan tahun 2020. Data yang digunakan merupakan data panel yang merupakan kombinasi data urut waktu tahunan dan cross section. Populasinya adalah seluruh perusahaan barang baku yang terdaftar di Bursa Efek Indonesia tahun 2016 sampai dengan tahun 2020 sejumlah 42 perusahaan. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan purposive sampling, ditemukan sampel sebanyak 26 perusahaan dengan pengamatan 5 tahun sehingga diperoleh total observasi sebanyak 130. Data diperoleh dari Bursa Efek Indonesia. Analisis data pada penelitian ini adalah regresi data panel. Model yang digunakan adalah Fixed Effect Model. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa profitabilitas berpengaruh negatif terhadap struktur modal yang mendukung teori Pecking Order. Ukuran perusahaan, struktur aset, dan risiko bisnis berpengaruh positif terhadap struktur modal yang mendukung teori Trade-off. Sedangkan pertumbuhan perusahaan dan likuiditas tidak berpengaruh terhadap struktur modal pada perusahaan sektor Barang Baku di Bursa Efek Indonesia. Dalam menentukan kebijakan pendanaan menurut hasil penelitian perusahaan disarankan untuk menganalisis risiko perusahaan terlebih dahulu, pemanfaatan hutang akan menyebabkan risiko bisnis akan meningkat. Serta profitabilitas perlu diamati terlebih dahulu dari periode sebelumnya sehingga dapat membuat perbandingan yang akurat untuk menentukan sumber pendanaan terbaik bagi perusahaan. Perusahaan yang profitable sebaiknya menggunakan hutang yang lebih rendah. Kata kunci: struktur modal, rasio keuangan, sektor barang baku, fixed effect model, trade-off theory.
