Abstract

Bohemian Rhapsody is a 2018 biographical film about the British rock band, Queen. The film Through Bohemian Rhapsody helped highlight the side of Freddie Mercury's life that was allegedly gay. Freddie Mercury is known as a singer, songwriter and record producer. But the name is most closely associated with the band Queen, who performed the Bohemian Rhapsody song. This research was conducted to find out how the general public and certain people of the Bohemian Rhapsody film. This research uses descriptive-qualitative. And the constructivist paradigm with in-depth interviews as a data collection technique. Researchers use Stuart Hall's analytical study reception theory. The audience is placed in three positions, namely Dominant Hegemony, Negotiations, and Opposition. The results showed the Bohemian Rhapsody film was interpreted variously from informant information, seven informants interpreted based on the Dominant code, one informant interpreted based on the Negotiation code and no informant interpreted based on the Opposition code. Keywords: Film, Bohemian Rhapsody, Homosexual Bohemian Rhapsody adalah sebuah film biografi tahun 2018 tentang grup band rock Inggris, Queen. Lewat film Bohemian Rhapsody turut menyorot sisi kehidupan Freddie Mercury yang disinyalir sebagai seorang gay. Freddie Mercury dikenal sebagai penyanyi, penulis lagu, dan produser rekaman. Namun namanya paling lekat dengan grup band Queen, yang membawakan lagu Bohemian Rhapsody. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui bagaimana resepsi masyarakat umum dan komunitas tertentu terhadap film Bohemian Rhapsody., Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan Deskriptif-Kualitatif. Dan Paradigma konstruktivisme dengan wawancara mendalam sebagai teknik pengumpulan data. Peneliti menggunakan teori studi analisis resepsi Stuart Hall. Khalayak ditempatkan pada tiga posisi, yaitu Hegemoni Dominan, Negosiasi, dan Oposisi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan film Bohemian Rhapsody dimaknai secara beragam dari delapan informan, tujuh informan memaknai berdasarkan kode Dominan, satu informan memaknai berdasarkan kode Negosiasi dan tidak ada informan yang memaknai berdasarkan kode Oposisi.
