Abstract

This study aims to determine the description of Coping Stress On A Wife After Her Husband’s Sudden Death. The subject used is the wife left by her husband because he died suddenly with a total of four subjects. This type of research used in this study is qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. Qualitative is a type of research whose findings are not obtained through statistical procedures or collation, but through descriptive data in the form of written or oral words from the behavior of people who can be observed. This study uses a non- partisipatory observation method and a semi - structured interview method that aims to understand a particular phenomenon or problem by using interview guide which is a benchmark in making interview questions that are tailored to the themes that have been made. The result of this study indicate that all four subjects use coping strategies that focus on the problem, namely by working hard to support their families because all four subjects feel the financial arrangementsand and planning fall apart when a partner dies and they become single parent. However, coping strategies that focus on the emotions of the four subject have their own way – to deal with the problem. Keywords: Sudden Death, Stress Coping, Wife Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui Gambaran Coping Stress pada Istri Pasca Kematian Suaminya Secara Mendadak. Subjek yang digunakan adalah istri yang ditinggalkan suaminya karena meninggal secara mendadak, dengan jumlah subjek empat orang. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi. Kualitatif merupakan jenis penelitian yang temuannya tidak diperoleh melalui prosedur statistik atau pengangkaan melainkan melalui data deskriptif berupa kata – kata tertulis atau lisan dari perilaku orang – orang yang dapat diamati. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode observasi non- partisipatif dan metode wawancara semi-terstruktur yang bertujuan untuk memahami suatu fonomena atau permasalahan tertentu dengan menggunakan panduan wawancara yang menjadi patokan dalam membuat pertanyaan wawancara yang disesuaikan dengan tema-tema yang telah dibuat. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa keempat subjek melakukan strategi coping yang berfokus pada masalah (problem focused coping) yaitu dengan bekerja keras untuk menghidupi keluarganya karena keempat subjek merasakan pengaturan dan perencanaan keuangan menjadi berantakan ketika pasangan meninggal dan mereka menjadi single parent. Akan tetapi, pada strategi coping yang berfokus pada emosi (emotional focused coping) keempat subjek mempunyai caranya sendiri – sendiri untuk menghadapi permasalahannya.
