Abstract

Grindr is a gay social networking application that can be downloaded through smartphones in this era. Grindr uses GPS or geolocation features on the device, which allows a user to find other users who are close to him. In addition, the Grindr application is able to display the identity and physical characteristics of its users such as height, weight, age, background and photo of the man. The grindr application for gays community is one of the communication platforms of interaction of gays in cyberspace. Because it makes researchers interested in conducting research on gay impression management on users of social networking applications Grindr The research method in this research is qualitative with the ervin gofman dramaturgy study. To answer the problem above, the researcher raised the sub focus of the study as follows: The front stage and the back stage. Which has the aim to find out impression management in the life of the front stage (and back stage of a gay user on the social networking application Grindr in building his existence. Informants were selected using a purposive technique, informants numbering six gay people who use grindr applications. The results of this study are the management of impressions on the front stage conducted on this grindr application is based on the motives of the informants in the use of the social networking application grindr which includes, curiosity, looking for introductions, looking for fellow gay friends, sex partners, money boy, looking for a gay partner. Where these motives are influences the impression and existence of the informants in presenting their identity in the grindr social networking application. The management of impressions on the back stage of the grindr application is that the informants show their true identity as gay without being covered up. On this case the informants as a gay can more freely display their identity directly in socializing fellow gays to achieve a goal to be able to channel the needs of sexual desire, affection, acceptance, and comfort Grindr adalah sebuah aplikasi jejaring sosial khusus gay yang bisa diunduh melalui smartphone saat ini. Grindr ini menggunakan fitur GPS atau geolokasi pada perangkat, yang memungkinkan seorang pengguna untuk menemukan pengguna lain yang berada dalam jarak dekat dengan dirinya. Disamping itu, aplikasi Grindr ini mampu menampilkan identitas dan ciri fisik dari penggunanya seperti tinggi, berat, usia, latar belakang dan foto pria tersebut. Penggunaan aplikasi jejaring sosial grindr bagi kaum gay dianggap sebagai salah satu wadah komunikasi interaksi para kaum gay di dunia maya. Karena hal tersebut membuat peneliti tertarik melakukan penelitian mengenai impression management gay pada pengguna aplikasi jejaring sosial grindr. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif dengan studi dramaturgi ervin gofman. Untuk menjawab masalah diatas, peneliti mengangkat sub fokus penelitian sebagai berikut: Panggung depan dan panggung belakang. Yang memiliki tujuan untuk Untuk mengetahui impression management di kehidupan front stage (panggung depan) maupun back stage (panggung belakang) seorang gay pada pengguna aplikasi jejaring sosial Grindr dalam membangun eksistensi dirinya. Informan dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik purposive, Informan penelitian berjumlah enam orang kaum gay pengguna aplikasi grindr. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah Pengelolaan kesan pada panggung depan (front stage) yang dilakukan pada aplikasi grindr ini adalah didasarkan pada motif dari para informan dalam penggunaan aplikasi jejaring sosial grindr yang meliputi, rasa penasaran, mencari perkenalan, mencari teman sesama gay, partner sex, money boy, mencari pasangan gay. Dimana motif tersebut mempengaruhi kesan serta eksistensi para informan dalam menampilkan jati dirinya pada aplikasi jejaring sosial grindr. Pengelolaan kesan pada panggung belakang (back stage) pada aplikasi grindr ini adalah para informan lebih menunjukan identitas asli diri mereka sebagai seorang gay tanpa ada yang ditutupi. Dipanggung ini para informan sebagai seorang gay bisa lebih leluasa menampilkan jati diri mereka secara langsung dalam bersosialisasi sesama gay untuk mencapai sebuah tujuan untuk dapat menyalurkan kebutuhan hasrat seksual, kasih sayang, penerimaan, dan sebuah kenyamanan
