Abstract
This study aims to investigate whether or not there are any relationship between gadget addiction with emotional intelligence among junior high school students in sub district Setiabudi South Jakarta. This study using structured questionnaire, primary data that has gotten from junior high school students from different schools in sub district Setiabudi South Jakarta, early youth aged between 12 to 16 years old as many as 379 respondents based on probability sampling method. Gadget addiction measured by using a scale which consists of 14 items which has a reliability coefficient value of 0.865, and emotional intelligence measured by using a scale consists of 15 items which has a reliability coefficient value of 0.777. Findings of the study showed that there are relationship between gadget addiction with emotional intelligence among junior high school students in sub district Setiabudi South Jakarta with a correlation coefficient of -0.177 which means that less gadget addiction have high emotional intelligence, otherwise that more gadget addiction have low emotional intelligence. Keywords: Gadget Addiction, Emotional Intelligence, Early Youth Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada hubungan antara kecanduan gadget dengan kecerdasan emosi pada siswa SMP di Kecamatan Setiabudi Jakarta Selatan. Dengan menggunakan kuesioner terstruktur, data primer didapatkan dari siswa SMP dari berbagai sekolah di Kecamatan Setiabudi Jakarta Selatan, remaja awal berusia antara 12 hingga 16 tahun sebanyak 379 responden berdasarkan metode probability sampling. Kecanduan gadget diukur menggunakan skala yang terdiri dari 14 item yang memiliki nilai koefisien reliabilitas sebesar 0.865, dan kecerdasan emosi diukur menggunakan skala yang terdiri dari 15 item yang memiliki nilai koefisien reliabilitas sebesar 0.777. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa adanya hubungan antara kecanduan gadget dengan kecerdasan emosi pada siswa SMP di Kecamatan Setiabudi Jakarta Selatan dengan nilai koefisien korelasi sebesar -0,177 yang artinya semakin rendah kecanduan gadget maka akan memiliki tingkat kecerdasan emosi yang tinggi, begitu juga sebaliknya.
