Abstract
This study aims to analyze the effect of iron (Fe) content variation on the corrosion resistance of full-Heusler Ni₂₋ₓFeₓCoAl alloy with composition variations of x = 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, and 0.25. This alloy has potential as a multifunctional material with excellent mechanical and thermal properties; however, it still has limitations in corrosion resistance, requiring compositional modification through Fe addition. The research method used is an experimental approach involving electrochemical testing using potentiodynamic polarization (Tafel) to determine corrosion potential (Ecorr) and corrosion current density (Icorr), Chronoamperometry to analyze ion diffusion behavior through diffusion coefficient (D) calculation, and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) to analyze polarization resistance and passive film characteristics, in 3.5% NaCl solution and RO water. The results show that the specimen without Fe substitution (x = 0) consistently exhibited the best corrosion resistance in both media, indicated by the lowest Icorr, highest Rct, and lowest diffusion coefficient. Conversely, Fe addition at low composition (x = 0.05) significantly decreased corrosion resistance, before performance gradually improved with increasing Fe content, with the optimum composition among Fe-containing specimens varying depending on the aggressiveness of the medium (x = 0.25 in RO water and x = 0.15 in 3.5% NaCl). This phenomenon is presumably related to uneven Fe segregation at grain boundaries during the early stage of substitution. All three testing methods showed consistent results with one another, reinforcing the validity of the findings of this study Keywords: Heusler alloy, Corrosion,
