Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan proses memilih pasangan pada dewasa awal di Kabupaten Boven Digoel Papua. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode fenomenologis untuk memahami makna pengalaman subjektif partisipan dalam proses tersebut. Partisipan dalam penelitian ini berjumlah empat orang dewasa awal yang dipilih secara purposive berdasarkan kriteria tertentu. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam dan dianalisis menggunakan tahapan analisis fenomenologis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa proses memilih pasangan hidup merupakan proses psikologis yang reflektif dan dipengaruhi oleh pengalaman hidup serta konteks sosial budaya. Pengalaman masa lalu, baik pengalaman keluarga maupun relasi sebelumnya, adalah yang membentuk kebutuhan psikologis yang menjadi dasar dalam menetapkan kriteria pasangan. Selain itu, kebutuhan akan stabilitas ekonomi, tanggung jawab, serta penerimaan keluarga dan komunitas menjadi pertimbangan penting dalam proses memilih pasangan. Nilai adat dan identitas budaya Papua turut membentuk kebutuhan akan rasa aman dan kesesuaian nilai dalam relasi. Temuan ini sejalan dengan penelitian terdahulu yang menekankan peran pengalaman dan faktor sosial dalam pemilihan pasangan hidup. Penelitian ini memperluas penerapan teori Complementary Needs dengan menunjukkan bahwa kebutuhan yang saling melengkapi dalam relasi tidak hanya bersifat personal, tetapi juga dikonstruksikan dalam sistem nilai keluarga, ekonomi, dan budaya lokal Papua. This study aims to describe the process of partner selection among early adults in Boven Digoel Regency, Papua. The research employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method to understand the subjective experiences of participants in the process of choosing a life partner. Four early adult participants were selected through purposive sampling based on predetermined criteria. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using phenomenological analysis procedures. The findings indicate that the process of partner selection is a reflective psychological process shaped by life experiences and socio-cultural contexts. Past experiences, including family dynamics and previous relationships, form psychological needs that serve as the basis for establishing partner criteria. In addition, the need for economic stability, responsibility, and social acceptance from family and community emerged as important considerations. Cultural values and Papuan identity also shape the need for security and value congruence in intimate relationships. These findings are consistent with previous studies emphasizing the role of personal experiences and social factors in partner selection. This study extends the application of Complementary Needs theory by demonstrating that complementary psychological needs are not solely personal dimensions but are constructed within family systems, economic considerations, and local Papuan cultural values.
