Abstract
This study aims to determine the relationship between social comparison and fear of missing out (FoMO) among generation Z who are active users of social media, particularly TikTok dan Instagram, in the Jabodetabek area. The research employed a quantitaive approach with a corralation design. The sample consisted of 103 Generation Z respondent selected through accidental sampling. The instruments used in this study were the Fear of missing out Scale (FoMOS) and the Social Media Social comparison Scale (SMSC). Data were analyzed using Spearman’s Rho test, as the FoMO variable was not normally distributed. The results showed a significant positive corralation between social comparison and fear of missing out (FoMO) (r = 0.585, p = 0.000). The means that the higher the tendency to compare oneself on social media, the higher the level of FoMO experienced. This study highlights the importance of using social media wisely tapi reduce negative psychological impacts among Generation Z, especially in the Jabodetabek area. Keyword: Social comparison, FoMO, Social Media, Generation Z Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara social comparison dengan fear of missing out (FoMO) pada Generasi Z pengguna aktif media sosial khususnya TikTok dan Instagram di Jabodetabek. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain korelasional. Sampel dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 103 responden Generasi Z yang di pilih secara accidental sampling. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini menggunakan Fear of missing out Scale (FoMOS) dan Social Media Social comparison Scale (SMSC). Analisis data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan uji Spearman’s Rho, karena pada variabel FoMO tidak berdistribusi dengan normal. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan terdapat hubungan positif yang signifikan antara social comparison dengan fear of missing out (FoMO) dengan hasil (r = 0.585, p = 0.000). Artinya, semakin tinggi kecenderungan membandingkan diri di media sosial, maka semakin tinggi pula tingkat FoMO yang dialami. Penelitian ini menegaskan pentingnya penggunaan media sosial secara bijak untuk mengurangi dampak psikologis negatif pada Generasi Z khususnya di Jabodetabek.
