Abstract

As a product of media communication, film carries implicit meanings through its cinematography, the actors' scenes, settings, and the objects that appear visually. The film industry is currently growing rapidly, with many films being adapted from social phenomena occurring in society. One such phenomenon is misogyny. The purpose of this study is to identify misogynistic practices depicted in the film Photocopier (Penyalin Cahaya) by using Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic analysis method and the theory of the meaning triangle to uncover signs related to misogynistic practices. Misogyny encompasses issues such as sexual harassment, sexual violence, gender-based discrimination, and the objectification of women. In the film Photocopier (Penyalin Cahaya), misogyny is depicted in several forms, including sexual violence and sexual harassment. These aspects are represented through verbal signs, such as dialogue between characters, and non-verbal signs, such as facial expressions and body gestures, which contribute to the portrayal of misogynistic phenomena in the film. There are visual elements that can be analyzed, such as lighting, cinematography, and spatial settings, which can influence the audience in interpreting the meaning presented in the film Photocopier (Penyalin Cahaya). In the data collection process, this study uses units of analysis in the form of sign observation from scene to scene within the film, identifying units related to misogynistic practices. This process generates signs and meanings, leading to the conclusion that misogyny in the film is represented through sexual harassment and sexual violence. Non-verbal signs that contain elements of misogynistic practices frequently appear in the film Photocopier (Penyalin Cahaya), mainly in the form of sexual harassment and sexual violence. In contrast, verbal signs appear only once, and they represent an instance of sexual violence. Key Words : Semiotic Analysis, Misogyny, Sign, Meaning, Film Sebagai produk media komunikasi, film memiliki makna yang tersirat dalam proses pengambilan gambar, adegan para pemeran, setting latar, serta objek-objek yang muncul pada visual. Perkembangan industri perfilman saat ini semakin pesat, banyak film-film yang diadaptasi dari fenomena sosial yang terjadi di Masyarakat. Salah satunya adalah fenomena misogini. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui praktik misoginisme yang terjadi dalam film Penyalin Cahaya melalui metode dengan menggunakan metode analisis semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce dengan teori segitiga makna untuk menemukan tanda terkait praktik misoginis. Misogini mencangkup isu seperti pelecehan seksual, kekerasan seksual, diskriminasi seksual dan objektifikasi yang terjadi kepada perempuan. Misoginis dalam film Penyalin Cahaya terdapat beberapa bentuk yaitu kekerasan seksual dan pelecehan seksual. Aspek-aspek tersebut berupa tanda verbal seperti dialog antar pemeran, dan tanda non verbal berupa ekspresi wajah dan gestur tubuh pemeran yang dapat menimbulkan fenomena misoginis terjadi pada film. Terdapat unsur visual yang bisa diteliti, seperti pencahayaan, pengambilan gambar dan setting ruang yang dapat mempengaruhi penonton dalam mengambil makna yang terdapat pada film Penyalin Cahaya. Dalam proses pengumpulan data, penelitian ini menggunakan unit analisis berupa observasi tanda dari scene per scene yang terdapat pada film Penyalin Cahaya dan mencari unit yang berhubungan praktik misoginis, yang menghasilkan tanda dan makna sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa misoginis yaitu pelecehan seksual dan kekerasan seksual. Tanda non verbal yang mengandung unsur praktik misoginis sering muncul di film Penyalin Cahaya yaitu berupa bentuk pelecehan seksual dan kekerasan seksual. Sedangkan tanda verbal muncul hanya sekali saja yaitu berupa bentuk kekerasan seksual. Kata Kunci : Analisis Semiotika, Misoginis, Tanda, Makna, Film
