Abstract
The rise of podcasts as a medium for public communication has positioned them as a significant platform in shaping public perceptions of legal issues. This study aims to explore audience interpretations of the Indonesian National Police (Polri)’s image in relation to the Pegi Setiawan case through a reception analysis of the “Close The Door” podcast, hosted by Deddy Corbuzier, which is known for its in-depth and emotionally engaging narratives. Reception theory highlights the active role of audiences in interpreting media messages, emphasizing that meaning is not fixed but shaped by social background, experiences, and cultural context. Audiences may fully accept messages (dominant-hegemonic), partially reinterpret them (negotiated), or reject them (oppositional). This perspective is applied to examine how viewers interpret the representation of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) in the “Close The Door” podcast and how their interpretations reflect diverse socio-cultural contexts. This research employed a qualitative methodology within a constructivist paradigm to examine how audiences, specifically Communication Science students at Universitas Mercu Buana, perceive and respond to the messages conveyed in the podcast. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and non-participant observation, then analyzed using a qualitative approach. The findings indicate that the “Close The Door” episode featuring Pegi Setiawan significantly influenced public opinion regarding the Vina Cirebon case and Polri’s image. Most participants adopted a dominant-hegemonic position, accepting the information presented without much critique, while a smaller group demonstrated a negotiated position, and very few took an oppositional stance. Overall, the study highlights the influential role of digital media in shaping public perception and emphasizes the importance of media literacy and critical awareness when engaging with non-official information sources. Keywords: Audience Interpretation, Deddy Corbuzier, New Media, Polri’s Image, Podcast, Reception Analysis Fenomena maraknya konten podcast sebagai media komunikasi publik telah menjadikannya sarana penting dalam membentuk persepsi masyarakat terhadap isu-isu hukum. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi interpretasi khalayak pada citra Polri terkait kasus Pegi Setiawan melalui analisis resepsi terhadap podcast “Close The Door” yang dipandu oleh Deddy Corbuzier. Podcast “Close The Door” diketahui menyajikan narasi yang mendalam dan emosional. Teori resepsi menekankan peran aktif audiens dalam menafsirkan pesan media, di mana makna tidak bersifat tunggal, melainkan dipengaruhi latar sosial, pengalaman, dan budaya. Audiens dapat menerima pesan secara penuh (dominant-hegemonic), menafsirkannya ulang sebagian (negotiated), atau menolaknya (oppositional). Perspektif ini digunakan untuk menganalisis bagaimana penonton memaknai representasi Polri dalam podcast Close The Door dan bagaimana interpretasi mereka mencerminkan keragaman konteks sosialbudaya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan paradigma konstruktivisme sehingga diharapkan dapat memahami bagaimana audiens, khususnya mahasiswa Fakultas Ilmu Komunikasi Universitas Mercu Buana, memaknai dan merespons pesan yang disajikan dalam podcast tersebut. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara mendalam dan observasi nonpartisipan, lalu dianalisis menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa podcast Close The Door segmen Pegi Setiawan berpengaruh dalam membentuk opini publik terkait kasus Vina Cirebon dan citra Polri. Mayoritas informan berada pada dominant-hegemonic position dengan menerima informasi secara langsung, sedangkan sebagian kecil lainnya berada pada negotiated position, dan hanya sedikit informan berada pada oppositional position. Hasil penelitian ini menegaskan peran media digital dalam memengaruhi persepsi publik serta pentingnya literasi dan kesadaran kritis dalam menyikapi informasi.
