Abstract
Vocational high schools (SMK) play an important role in providing young people with the skills they need to enter the workforce. SMK students are trained in machining skills in machining laboratories, which are practice rooms for students to become skilled and ready to work in the business world and industry. However, SMK students contribute to unemployment in Indonesia. This study aims to reduce waste in the practical process time in the machining technology laboratory by implementing improvements using practical tools made from scrap iron (kaizen) in the form of jigs and fixtures. By combining the VSM and kaizen methods, the results of comparing the current state mapping and future state mapping show a reduction in practical process time of 68.95%. Additionally, both methods can accelerate the process time from a total practice time of 248 minutes to 171 minutes. The jigs and fixtures created provide a tangible contribution to the practical training process conducted in the mechanical engineering laboratory at the vocational high school (SMK) level. Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK) memainkan peran penting dalam menyediakan generasi muda dengan keterampilan yang diperlukan untuk memasuki dunia kerja. Keterampilan SMK teknik pemesinan dilatih di laboratorium teknik pemesinan yang merupakan ruang praktik siswa agar siswa terampil dan siap kerja didunia usaha dan dunia industri, akan tetapi siswa SMK menjadi penyumbang pengangguran di Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengurangi waste pada waktu proses praktik di laboratorium teknik pemesinan dengan cara melakukan improvement menggunakan alat bantu praktik yang terbuat dari limbah besi (kaizen) berupa jig and fixture. Dengan menggunakan kombinasi metode VSM dan kaizen didapat hasil dari perbandingan current state mapping dan future state mapping dapat mereduksi waktu proses praktik sebesar 68,95%. Selain itu, kedua metode tersebut dapat mempercepat waktu proses dari total waktu praktik 248 menit menjadi 171 menit. Jig and fixture yang dibuat memberikan kontribusi nyata dalam proses praktik yang dilakukan di laboratorium teknik pemesinan pada jenjang pendidikan SMK (vokasi).
