Abstract
This study aims to analyze the effect of Social Comparison Orientation (SCO) on the level of Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) among employees of the fintech company YOKKE. In the digital era, social media and technology-based work environments facilitate social comparison, which may trigger FoMO, particularly in competitive professional settings. This research employed a quantitative approach with an explanatory design. The sample consisted of 248 permanent employees of YOKKE, selected through a simple random sampling technique. The instruments used were the IowaNetherlands Comparison Orientation Measure (INCOM) to measure SCO and the Fear of Missing Out Scale (FoMOS) to measure FoMO. Both instruments were tested and proven valid and reliable. The regression analysis showed that SCO has a positive and significant effect on FoMO. The coefficient of determination (R²) was 0.422, indicating that SCO explains 42.2% of the variation in FoMO, while the remaining 57.8% is influenced by other factors. Categorization results further revealed that most respondents were in the moderate category for both SCO and FoMO, suggesting a considerable tendency to engage in social comparison as well as a notable concern of being left out of social or informational updates. These findings reinforce the relevance of Gibbons & Buunk’s Social Comparison Orientation (1999) in digital work contexts and support Przybylski et al.’s (2013) FoMO framework. Practically, the results highlight the importance for organizations to pay closer attention to employees’ psychological well-being, such as by providing digital literacy programs, stress management training, and fostering a more collaborative rather than competitive work culture. Keywords: Social Comparison Orientation, Fear of Missing Out (FoMO), Employees, Fintech Company, Social Media. (2013). Secara praktis, hasil penelitian ini menekankan pentingnya perhatian perusahaan terhadap kesehatan mental karyawan, misalnya melalui literasi digital, manajemen stres, dan penciptaan budaya kerja yang lebih kolaboratif Kata kunci : Social Comparison Orientation, Fear of Missing Out (FoMO), Karyawan, Perusahaan Fintech, Media Sosial.
