Abstract

This study aims to understand how parents’ interpersonal communication patterns contribute to shaping positive character in children in Margasari Village, Karawaci District, Tangerang City. The research focuses on daily communication practices between parents and children and how these interactions influence children’s moral, social, and character development. The study employs a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings show that open, empathetic, and consistent communication helps children develop positive character traits such as honesty, responsibility, cooperation, and empathy. However, the study also reveals several challenges, including parents’ busy work schedules, excessive use of gadgets among children, and intergenerational differences in communication styles. This research emphasizes the importance of interpersonal communication within families as a foundation for character development in children, particularly in urban settings. Keywords : interpersonal communication, parents, positive character, children, family Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami bagaimana pola komunikasi interpersonal orang tua dalam membentuk karakter positif pada anak di Kelurahan Margasari, Kecamatan Karawaci, Kota Tangerang. Fokus penelitian terletak pada praktik komunikasi sehari-hari antara orang tua dan anak serta bagaimana hal tersebut berdampak pada nilai moral, sosial, dan karakter anak. Metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa komunikasi yang terbuka, penuh empati, serta dilakukan secara konsisten membantu anak menumbuhkan karakter yang positif, seperti : kejujuran, tanggung jawab, kerja sama, dan empati. Meski demikian, penelitian ini juga menemukan adanya hambatan berupa kesibukan orang tua, pengguna gadger yang berlebihan, serta perbedaan pola komunikasi antar generasi. Penelitian ini menegaskan pentingnya komunikasi interpersonal dalam keluarga sebagai fondasi pembentukan karakter anak, khususnya di wilayah perkotaan.
