Abstract
This research is motivated by the phenomenon of women's representation in Indonesian films which is still often portrayed in a stereotypical and subordinate manner. The film Stealing Raden Saleh (2022) presents a different narrative by placing female characters as active subjects who play an important role in the act of theft, making it interesting to study from the perspective of feminism. The purpose of this research is to uncover the meaning of the denotations, connotations, and myths of feminism contained in the film through the semiotic analysis of Roland Barthes. This is a qualitative study applying Roland Barthes' semiotic method. The unit of analysis includes selected scenes featuring female characters. Both verbal and non-verbal signs are analyzed through Barthes’ three levels of meaning: denotation, connotation, and myth. The study finds that female characters, particularly Sarah and Fella, are portrayed as autonomous, active, and strategic figures. The film deconstructs patriarchal myths by positioning women as equals in the power structure of the heist team. Through visual composition, dialogue, and storyline, the film reproduces third-wave feminist values and serves as a symbolic space for challenging gender stereotypes. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh fenomena representasi perempuan dalam film Indonesia yang masih sering digambarkan secara stereotipis dan subordinatif. Film Mencuri Raden Saleh (2022) menghadirkan narasi berbeda dengan menempatkan tokoh perempuan sebagai subjek aktif yang berperan penting dalam aksi pencurian, sehingga menarik untuk dikaji dari perspektif feminisme. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkap makna denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos feminisme yang terkandung dalam film tersebut melalui analisis Semiotika Roland Barthes. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan Semiotika Roland Barthes. Unit analisis terdiri dari adegan-adegan terpilih dalam film yang menampilkan karakter perempuan. Analisis dilakukan terhadap tanda verbal dan non-verbal dengan merujuk pada tiga lapis makna Barthes: denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa karakter perempuan dalam film, khususnya Sarah dan Fella, direpresentasikan sebagai tokoh aktif, mandiri, dan strategis. Film ini membongkar mitos patriarki dengan menampilkan perempuan sebagai subjek yang setara dalam struktur kekuasaan tim aksi. Melalui pendekatan visual, dialog, dan alur cerita, film ini mereproduksi nilai-nilai feminisme gelombang ketiga dan menjadi ruang simbolik bagi perlawanan terhadap stereotip gender.
