Abstract

Libraries as academic public spaces continue to undergo functional transformations in line with the progress of time. No longer serving merely as repositories of books and information sources, libraries are now transforming into more dynamic learning centers. They have also developed into spaces for discussion, the strengthening of literacy culture, and hubs of innovation that support both academic and social activities. The advancement of digital technology and the increasingly diverse needs of users encourage the creation of libraries with spaces that are more flexible, inclusive, and interactive. The interior design of Universitas Mercu Buana (UMB) Library adopts the concept of collaborative space with an inclusive design approach. The objective is to create an environment that supports effective communication, teamwork, and comfort in carrying out various activities. The spatial arrangement is designed with openness and connectivity between areas, creating an atmosphere that encourages interaction and collaboration. The furniture applied is modular and can be easily adjusted to users’ needs, allowing the space to be rearranged according to different types of activities. Natural tones such as green, mustard, and wooden elements are chosen to evoke a warm, comfortable, and calming atmosphere. Interior materials are selected by considering visual comfort, acoustic quality, safety, and ease of maintenance to ensure long-term spatial quality. Natural lighting is maximized through large window openings, not only to enhance energy efficiency but also to improve spatial quality. Accessibility is another priority, with circulation paths that are safe and barrier-free for all users, including those with special needs. Digital technology such as computer zones, high-speed internet, and presentation facilities further enhance the library’s functional value. Thus, the UMB Library is expected to become a dynamic, inspiring learning environment that adapts to contemporary needs while supporting a sustainable modern learning ecosystem. Keywords: Collaborative space, inclusive design, modern library Perpustakaan sebagai ruang publik akademik terus mengalami perubahan fungsi seiring perkembangan zaman.
