Abstract

This study discusses the directing process in the short film “ABATI”, which highlights the relationship between a father and his daughter within the context of disability and family communication. The film is based on reflections of emotional conflict and honesty issues within a familial setting. The research applies a qualitative method with a practice-based directing approach. The director implemented the theories of mise en scène and screen direction to shape the visual composition, emotional tone, and continuity between scenes to ensure the narrative is conveyed clearly and meaningfully. During the production, camera treatment techniques were used to align visual expression with the story’s emotional rhythm. Supporting production documents such as the call sheet and breakdown master also played a key role in ensuring coordination and efficiency among the crew. As the author of this final applied project, I found that directing requires sensitivity to social themes and well-structured visual skills. The film “ABATI” is expected to convey a message about the importance of communication, acceptance, and love within the family. Keywords: ABATI, Directing, Short Film, Mise en Scène, Screen Direction, Family Communication Penelitian ini membahas proses penyutradaraan dalam produksi film pendek “ABATI” yang mengangkat tema hubungan ayah dan anak perempuan dalam konteks disabilitas dan komunikasi keluarga. Film ini disusun berdasarkan refleksi terhadap konflik emosional dan isu kejujuran dalam relasi keluarga. Penelitian menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan praktik penyutradaraan. Penulis menerapkan teori mise en scène dan screen direction untuk membentuk komposisi visual, suasana emosional, serta kesinambungan gerak antaradegan agar narasi tersampaikan secara jelas dan menyentuh. Dalam proses produksi, penulis juga memanfaatkan teknik camera treatment untuk menyesuaikan pengambilan gambar dengan nuansa cerita. Dukungan dokumen produksi seperti call sheet dan breakdown master membantu memperlancar koordinasi dan efisiensi kerja tim. Saya sebagai penulis dalam tugas akhir aplikatif ini mendapatkan hasil yang menunjukkan bahwa penyutradaraan memerlukan sensitivitas terhadap tema sosial dan keterampilan visual yang terstruktur. Film “ABATI” diharapkan dapat menyampaikan pesan tentang pentingnya komunikasi, penerimaan, dan kasih sayang dalam keluarga.
