Abstract
This study aims to examine the relationship between alexithymia and selfdisclosure with loneliness among emerging adults who own Instagram accounts. Loneliness is defined as an emotional state characterized by dissatisfaction with the quality of social relationships, measured in this study using the UCLA Loneliness Scale Version 3 (Russell, 1996). Alexithymia, defined as the difficulty in identifying and expressing emotions, was measured using the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20) developed by Taylor et al. (1994). Meanwhile, selfdisclosure, the process of revealing personal information, was measured using the Revised Self-Disclosure Scale (RSDS) by Wheeless and Grotz (1976). This research employed a quantitative correlational approach with accidental sampling. The sample consisted of 150 emerging adults aged 18–25 years who owned Instagram accounts. Data were analyzed using Spearman’s Rho, Mann-Whitney U, and Kruskal-Wallis tests. The findings showed no significant relationship between alexithymia and loneliness. However, there was a significant negative relationship between self-disclosure and loneliness, indicating that higher levels of self-disclosure are associated with lower levels of loneliness. These results suggest that self-disclosure plays an important role in reducing loneliness among Instagram users, while the influence of alexithymia on loneliness may be shaped by the social context and digital media usage.
