Abstract
Penelitian ini mengkaji representasi feminisme liberal dalam Bridgerton Season 3 dengan pendekatan semiotika John Fiske, mencakup tiga level pemaknaan: realitas (penampilan, dialog, kostum, ekspresi), representasi (narasi, konflik, sinematografi), dan ideologi (nilai feminisme liberal, individualisme). Fokus analisis tertuju pada tokoh Penelope Featherington di Episode 6 dan 7, yang menjalani peran ganda sebagai bangsawan dan penulis rahasia Lady Whistledown. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Penelope digambarkan sebagai perempuan mandiri secara finansial, berani menyuarakan pendapat, serta mampu mengendalikan narasi sosial lewat tulisannya. Namun, kebebasan tersebut masih berhadapan dengan norma sosial patriarkal dan bingkai romantis yang menempatkan laki-laki pada posisi dominan. Serial ini memadukan citra perempuan kuat dengan sifat lembut, memperlihatkan ketegangan antara keinginan untuk bebas dan tuntutan masyarakat. Studi ini menegaskan bahwa media populer seperti Serial Netflix Bridgerton dapat menjadi ruang representasi ideologi, termasuk penyampaian nilai-nilai feminisme secara implisit melalui cerita dan visual, sekaligus membentuk persepsi publik tentang peran gender di masyarakat. This study examines the representation of liberal feminism in Bridgerton Season 3 using John Fiske's semiotic approach, covering three levels of meaning: reality (appearance, dialogue, costume, expression), representation (narrative, conflict, cinematography), and ideology (liberal feminist values, individualism). The analysis focuses on the character of Penelope Featherington in Episodes 6 and 7, who plays the dual role of a noblewoman and secret writer, Lady Whistledown. The results show that Penelope is portrayed as a financially independent woman, bold in voicing her opinions, and able to control the social narrative through her writing. However, this freedom still confronts patriarchal social norms and romantic frames that place men in a dominant position. The series blends the image of a strong woman with a gentle nature, demonstrating the tension between the desire for freedom and societal demands. This study confirms that popular media such as the Netflix series Bridgerton can be a space for ideological representation, including the implicit delivery of feminist values through stories and visuals, while simultaneously shaping public perceptions of gender roles in society.
