Abstract
Cooling pipes found in ship engine circuits using low carbon steel materials including JIS G-3101 steel are materials that are in direct contact with seawater, which have a higher potential to corrode, causing material losses. So far, the industry still uses chemical inhibitors containing nitrite, phosphate, and chromate compounds that have a toxic impact on the environment. Garlic extract, which is rich in organosulfur compounds, is a green inhibitor innovation to transition the use of chemical inhibitors that are toxic to the environment. By testing its ability to inhibit steel corrosion using Electrophoresis Disposition (EPD) coating technique with electrochemical test corrosion rate method with linear polarization measurement technique. The results showed that the addition of garlic extract can significantly reduce the corrosion rate of JIS G-3101 steel in seawater, with the inhibition efficiency increasing along with the concentration of the extract. The results of electrochemical testing with variations of garlic extract inhibitor without plating, 1%, 2%, and 3% dissolved with 100 ml of distilled water as a solvent obtained optimal results in reducing the corrosion rate contained in the variation of inhibitor concentration of 1 gram with tafel slope anodic (Ba) 251.15 mV, cathodic (Bc) 177.17 mV, and Corrrosion Rate (CR) 0.097297 mmPY with 90.90% inhibitor efficiency. Keywords: Corrosion, Corrosion Rate, Seawater, Green Inhibitor, Garlic Extract, EPD, Optical Microscope Pipa pendingin yang terdapat pada rangkaian mesin kapal dengan memakai material baja karbon rendah yang termasuk baja JIS G-3101 merupakan material yang bersinggungan langsung dengan air laut, yang berpotensi terkorosi lebih tinggi yang menyebabkan karugian material. Selama ini per-industrian masih menggunakan inhibitor kimia yang terkandung senyawa nitrit, fosfat, dan kromat yang berdampak toksik terhadap lingkungan. Ekstrak bawang putih, yang kaya akan senyawa organosulfur, menjadi inovasi green inhibitor untuk mentransisi pemakaian inhibitor kimia yang toksik terhadap lingkungan. Dengan diuji kemampuannya dalam menghambat korosi baja menggunakan teknik pelapisan Electrophoresis Disposition (EPD) dengan metode laju korosi uji elektrokimia dengan teknik pengukuran polarisasi linier. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan ekstrak bawang putih secara signifikan dapat mengurangi laju korosi baja JIS G-3101 dalam air laut, dengan efisiensi penghambatan yang meningkat seiring dengan konsentrasi ekstrak. Hasil pengujian elektrokimia dengan variasi inhibitor ekstrak bawang putih tanpa pelapisan, 1%, 2%, dan 3% yang dilarutkan dengan 100 ml aquades sebagai pelarut mendapatkan hasil yang optimal penurunan laju korosi terdapat pada variasi konsentrasi inhibitor 1 gram dengan tafel slope anodic (Ba) 251.15 mV, katodik (Bc) 177.17 mV, dan Corrrosion Rate (CR) 0.097297 mmPY dengan efisiensi inhibitor 90,90%.
