Abstract
This study aims to determine the role of self-acceptance as a mediator in the relationship between authoritarian parenting and fear of negative evaluation in late adolescents in South Tangerang. Fear of negative evaluation is defined as an individual's fear of negative judgment from others, which can cause social anxiety. Authoritarian parenting is a parenting style that emphasizes obedience, strict discipline, and lack of emotional warmth. Meanwhile, self-acceptance is an individual's ability to accept themselves as a whole, including their shortcomings and failures. This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The sampling technique used purposive sampling, with a total sample of 130 late adolescents living in South Tangerang. The measuring instruments used consisted of the authoritarian parenting scale, Brief Fear of Negative Evaluation, and Unconditional Self-Acceptance. Data analysis was conducted using mediation analysis through the Jamovi application. The results showed that there was a significant positive relationship between authoritarian parenting and fear of negative evaluation, as well as a significant positive relationship between selfacceptance and fear of negative evaluation. The results of mediation analysis show that self-acceptance significantly mediates the relationship between authoritarian parenting and fear of negative evaluation. It can be concluded that authoritarian parenting style not only directly impacts the fear of negative judgment, but also indirectly through low self-acceptance. This finding confirms the important role of self-acceptance in reducing the negative impact of parenting on adolescents' psychological state. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peran self-acceptance sebagai mediator dalam hubungan antara pola asuh otoriter (authoritarian parenting) terhadap fear of negative evaluation pada remaja akhir di Tangerang Selatan. Fear of negative evaluation didefinisikan sebagai ketakutan individu terhadap penilaian negatif dari orang lain, yang dapat menimbulkan kecemasan sosial. Pola asuh otoriter merupakan gaya pengasuhan yang menekankan kepatuhan, disiplin ketat, dan minimnya kehangatan emosional. Sementara itu, self-acceptance adalah kemampuan individu untuk menerima diri secara utuh, termasuk kekurangan dan kegagalannya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain cross-sectional. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan purposive sampling, dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 130 remaja akhir yang tinggal di Tangerang Selatan. Alat ukur yang digunakan terdiri dari skala authoritarian parenting, Brief Fear of Negative Evaluation, dan Unconditional Self-Acceptance. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan mediation analysis melalui aplikasi Jamovi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan positif yang signifikan antara pola asuh otoriter dan fear of negative evaluation, serta hubungan positif yang signifikan antara self-acceptance dan fear of negative evaluation. Hasil analisis mediasi menunjukkan bahwa self-acceptance secara signifikan memediasi hubungan antara pola asuh otoriter dan fear of negative evaluation. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa gaya pengasuhan otoriter tidak hanya berdampak langsung terhadap ketakutan akan penilaian negatif, tetapi juga secara tidak langsung melalui rendahnya penerimaan diri. Temuan ini menegaskan pentingnya peran selfacceptance dalam mengurangi dampak negatif pola asuh terhadap kondisi psikologis remaja.
