Abstract
This study aims to design streetwear clothing using patchwork techniques from textile waste for BMX street riders aged 18–25 years who are physically and socially active. The variables examined include functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability of clothing based on movement needs and lifestyle of the BMX community. This research employs a qualitative approach rather than quantitative sampling, using data collection through literature studies, style observation, and ergonomic analysis. The data collection techniques involve identifying user needs, analyzing fabric types and styles, and exploring patchwork techniques as an upcycling method. The data were analyzed using a descriptive-qualitative approach to identify design elements that meet the functional and expressive needs of users. The results indicate that BMX street riders require clothing that is loose-fitting, abrasion-resistant, flexible, and reflective of their subcultural identity. Patchwork techniques are proven effective in transforming textile waste into both decorative and structural design elements. The final products, such as jackets and hoodies, successfully integrate aesthetics, comfort, and sustainability. In conclusion, streetwear design based on patchwork from textile waste can serve as an alternative solution to reduce textile waste while fulfilling the functional and expressive needs of the BMX street community. Keywords: Streetwear, Patchwork, Fabric Waste, BMX, Street Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang pakaian streetwear dengan teknik patchwork dari limbah kain bagi riders BMX street usia 18–25 tahun yang aktif secara fisik dan sosial. Variabel yang diteliti mencakup fungsi, estetika, dan keberlanjutan pakaian berdasarkan kebutuhan gerak dan gaya hidup komunitas BMX. Penelitian ini tidak menggunakan sampel dalam bentuk kuantitatif, melainkan pendekatan kualitatif dengan pengumpulan data melalui studi literatur, observasi gaya berpakaian, dan analisis ergonomi. Teknik pengumpulan data melibatkan identifikasi kebutuhan pengguna, analisis jenis bahan dan gaya, serta eksplorasi teknik patchwork sebagai metode upcycling. Analisis data dilakukan melalui pendekatan deskriptif-kualitatif untuk mengidentifikasi elemen desain yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan fungsional dan ekspresif pengguna. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa riders BMX street membutuhkan pakaian yang longgar, tahan gesek, fleksibel, dan mencerminkan identitas subkultur mereka. Teknik patchwork cukup efektif dalam mengelola limbah kain menjadi elemen dekoratif dan struktural. Produk akhir berupa streetwear seperti jaket dan hoodie berhasil menggabungkan nilai estetika, kenyamanan, dan keberlanjutan. Kesimpulannya, desain streetwear berbasis patchwork dari limbah kain dapat menjadi solusi alternatif dalam mengurangi limbah tekstil sekaligus menjawab kebutuhan fungsional dan ekspresif komunitas BMX street.
