Abstract
This design project aims to elevate the cultural values of the Baduy Tribe by applying the Janggawari woven motif into semi-formal women's fashion with an elegant and balanced design approach. The main issue addressed is the lack of public awareness and interest, especially among younger generations, in Baduy weaving, particularly the Janggawari motif. This situation has led to a decline in weaving activity, which in turn affects the economic income of the Baduy community. The Quiet Artistry trend is used to explore weaving as a visual medium that is not only aesthetic but also carries deep philosophical meaning. The research applies the ATUMICS method (Artefact, User, Material, Icon, Concept, Style) through a qualitative approach. Data were collected through literature studies, direct observation in the Baduy area, visual documentation, and symbolic analysis of the Janggawari motif along with cultural elements such as widi, diamond-shaped patterns, and natural representations. The design process resulted in five semi-formal fashion collections that apply fabric manipulation techniques such as cording, while incorporating cultural elements into the silhouettes, structures, and garment details. The results indicate that the Janggawari weaving can be transformed into contemporary fashion without losing its original cultural essence. In conclusion, this project not only fulfills functional and aesthetic aspects but also serves as a medium for preserving local culture in a way that is relevant and applicable to the modern fashion market and younger generation. Keywords: Janggawari Weaving, semi-formal fashion, Quiet Artistry, ATUMICS Perancangan ini bertujuan untuk mengangkat nilai budaya Suku Baduy melalui penerapan tenun motif Janggawari ke dalam bentuk busana semi formal wanita dengan pendekatan desain elegan dan seimbang. Permasalahan utama yang diangkat adalah kurangnya pengenalan dan minat masyarakat, khususnya generasi muda, terhadap tenun Baduy, khususnya motif Janggawari. Hal ini memberikan efek lanjutan terhadap menurunnya aktivitas menenun dan turut memengaruhi pemasukan ekonomi masyarakat Baduy. Pendekatan tren Quiet Artistry digunakan untuk mengeksplorasi tenun sebagai media visual yang tidak hanya estetis, tetapi juga bermakna filosofis. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode ATUMICS (Artefact, User, Material, Icon, Concept, Style) dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Data diperoleh melalui studi literatur, observasi langsung di wilayah Baduy, dokumentasi visual, dan analisis simbolik terhadap motif Janggawari serta elemen budaya seperti widi, motif belah ketupat, dan representasi alam. Proses desain menghasilkan lima koleksi busana semi formal yang menerapkan teknik fabric manipulation seperti cording, serta mengintegrasikan unsur budaya ke dalam siluet, struktur, dan detail busana. Hasil perancangan menunjukkan bahwa tenun Janggawari dapat diolah menjadi busana kontemporer tanpa kehilangan makna budaya aslinya. Kesimpulannya, perancangan ini berpotensi menjadi media pelestarian budaya lokal yang relevan bagi pasar mode modern dan generasi muda.
