Abstract
The film Ali Topan is a remake of the film of the same title, but is freely adapted from the best-selling novel Ali Topan Anak Jalanan by Teguh Esha which presents a story of teenage love amidst social and family conflicts. This study aims to analyze how the representation of romance is displayed in the film Ali Topan (2023) through Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic approach. The theories used in this study are romance, verbal and nonverbal communication, media representation, and Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotics. By using the constructivism paradigm and qualitative descriptive methods, the researcher examines the meaning of romance through Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic method which connects the signifier and the signified in several scenes. This study shows that film as a mass media not only conveys entertainment, but also represents cultural and emotional values that are relevant to the lives of modern teenagers. The results of the study show that romance in this film is represented through various forms of emotional expression, such as seducing a partner, looking meaningfully, hugging, kissing, dancing, and praising a partner. Each visual and narrative sign carries a deep meaning about love, sacrifice, freedom, as well as the main character's inner conflict which is shown verbally and non-verbally. Keywords: Ali Topan Film, Romance, Representation, Semiotics, Ferdinand de Saussure Film Ali Topan merupakan remake dari film berjudul sama, namun diadaptasi bebas dari novel laris Ali Topan Anak Jalanan karya Teguh Esha yang menampilkan kisah cinta remaja di tengah konflik sosial dan keluarga. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana representasi romantisme ditampilkan dalam film Ali Topan (2023) melalui pendekatan semiotika Ferdinand de Saussure. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini ialah romantisme, komunikasi verbal dan nonverbal, representasi media, dan semiotika Ferdinand de Saussure. Dengan menggunakan paradigma konstruktivisme dan metode deskriptif kualitatif, peneliti mengkaji makna romantisme melalui metode semiotika Ferdinand de Saussure yang menghubungkan antara signifier (penanda) dan signified (petanda) dalam beberapa scene-scene. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa film sebagai media massa tidak hanya menyampaikan hiburan, tetapi juga merepresentasikan nilai-nilai budaya dan emosional yang relevan dengan kehidupan remaja modern. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa romantisme dalam film ini direpresentasikan melalui berbagai bentuk ekspresi emosional, seperti merayu pasangan, menatap penuh arti, memeluk, mencium, berdansa, dan memuji pasangan. Setiap tanda visual dan naratif membawa makna mendalam tentang cinta, pengorbanan, kebebasan, serta konflik batin tokoh utama yang ditunjukkan melalui verbal dan nonverbal.
