Abstract
Film is a dominant audio-visual media in mass communication media and has emerged as a medium for entertainment, education and information in film and television media. Thailand is one of the countries that is popular with tourists as a vacation spot because of its natural beauty and culture. Not only that, now films produced by this white elephant country are also being targeted by many people to watch because they have a strong film industry market. The film How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies (2024) is a family film with a comedy drama genre that tells the story of M, a man who decides to quit his job to take care of Amah (Grandmother) who has cancer. However, M takes care of Amah not because of affection, but because he wants to get an inheritance. This study aims to represent family conflict in the film How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies. This study uses a qualitative approach with Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic analysis. Peirce explains the triangle of meaning with the categorization of Representamen (ground), Object, and Interpretant. The scene that is the object of this research is a series of visuals in the form of scenes, shots, and dialogues that contain the form and cause of family conflict in the film How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies. Based on the results of the study, it was found that there are three scenes of conflict that occur in the family, namely: (1) Conflict Between Mother and Child, (2) Conflict Between Siblings, (3) Conflict Between Grandmother and Grandchild. There are verbal and nonverbal signs that represent family conflict through dialogue between characters, facial expressions, expressions and body language of the characters in the film How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies. Keywords : Film How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies, Family Conflict, Representation, Semiotics, Charles Sanders Peirce Film merupakan media audio-visual yang dominan dalam media komunikasi massa dan muncul menjadi media hiburan, pendidikan dan informasi pada media film dan televisi. Thailand menjadi salah satu negara yang laku dikunjungi oleh wisatawan sebagai tempat berlibur karena keindahan alam dan budayanya. Tak hanya itu, kini film produksi negara gajah putih ini turut menjadi incaran banyak orang untuk ditonton sebab memiliki pasar industri film yang kuat. Film How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies (2024) adalah sebuah film keluarga dengan genre drama komedi yang menceritakan tentang M seorang laki – laki yang memutuskan berhenti dari pekerjaannya untuk merawat Amah (Nenek) yang terkena kanker. Akan tetapi, M merawat Amah bukan karena kasih sayang, melainkan karena ingin mendapatkan warisan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merepresentasikan konflik keluarga dalam film How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan analisis semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce. Peirce menjelaskan segitiga makna dengan kategorisasi Representamen (ground), Object, dan Interpretant. Adegan yang menjadi objek penelitian ini adalah berupa rangkaian visual berupa scene, shot, dan dialog yang mengandung bentuk dan penyebab terjadinya konflik keluarga dalam film How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ditemukan bahwa terdapat tiga adegan konflik yang terjadi dalam keluarga, yaitu: (1) Konflik Antara Ibu dan Anak, (2) Konflik Antara Saudara, dan (3) Konflik Antara Nenek dan Cucu. Terdapat tanda verbal dan nonverbal yang merepresentasikan konflik keluarga melalui dialog antar karakter, mimik wajah, ekspresi maupun bahasa tubuh karakter para tokoh dalam film How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies.
