Abstract
This study investigates the mediating role of career competencies in the relationship between career adaptability and task performance among Indonesian workers. Career adaptability, defined as the ability to adjust to changes in the work environment, plays a crucial role in shaping career competencies and enhancing task performance. This study examines how career adaptability fosters a positive work environment that supports both career competencies and task performance. Utilizing mediated regression analysis, the study analyzes data from 525 Indonesian workers to explore how career adaptability influences task performance, with career competencies acting as a potential mediator. The data were analyzed using PROCESS V.4.2 for SPSS, allowing for an in-depth examination of mediation effects. Established measurement tools were employed, including the Career Adapt-Abilities Scale-Short Form (CAAS-SF), Career Competencies Questionnaire (CCQ), and Goodman’s 9-item Task Performance Scale (GPTP-9). The results indicate that career adaptability significantly enhances career competencies, which subsequently improves task performance. Furthermore, career competencies effectively mediate the relationship between career adaptability and task performance. These findings provide valuable insights for organizations seeking to develop a highly adaptable workforce by implementing strategies that prioritize career competencies. Despite these positive findings, the study has limitations. The sample is limited to respondents from Jabodetabek and was collected using convenience sampling, restricting generalizability. Additionally, non-normal data distribution and the absence of other influencing factors, such as organizational culture and social support, highlight areas for future research. A broader sample and consideration of additional variables would enhance the study’s applicability and depth. Dengan mengakui dampak kritis dari career competencies dan task performance, penelitian ini mengeksplorasi bagaimana career adaptability, yang ditandai dengan kemampuan untuk menyesuaikan diri dengan perubahan lingkungan kerja, dapat menciptakan lingkungan kerja yang positif yang meningkatkan baik career competencies maupun task performance. Penelitian ini menggunakan analisis regresi mediasi dengan data dari 525 pekerja Indonesia, studi ini meneliti jalur-jalur di mana career adaptability mempengaruhi task performance, dengan career competencies sebagai mediator potensial. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan prosedur PROCESS V.4.2 untuk SPSS, yang memungkinkan pemeriksaan komprehensif terhadap hubungan mediasi yang dihipotesiskan. Studi ini menggunakan skala yang sudah mapan untuk mengukur Career Adapt-Abilities Scale-Short Form (CAAS-SF), Career Competencies Questionnaire (CSQ), dan Goodman’s 9-item Task Performance (GPTP-9). Memahami hubungan ini semakin mendesak di lingkungan kerja yang cepat berubah saat ini. Temuan dari studi ini akan memberikan wawasan berharga bagi organisasi yang ingin mengembangkan tenaga kerja yang berkembang dengan menerapkan praktik career adaptability yang memprioritaskan career competencies dan mendorong task performance. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa career adaptability meningkatkan career competencies, yang pada gilirannya meningkatkan task performance. Career competencies juga berhasil menjadi mediator dalam hubungan antara career adaptability dan task performance. Meskipun hasilnya positif, generalisasi penelitian terbatas karena hanya melibatkan responden dari wilayah Jabodetabek dan menggunakan metode convenience sampling. Selain itu, distribusi data yang tidak normal dan keterbatasan dalam mempertimbangkan variabel lain seperti budaya organisasi atau dukungan sosial juga menjadi batasan dalam penelitian ini.
