Abstract

Instagram is one of the most widely used social media platforms in Indonesian, offering various features such as comments, likes, photo and video uploads, and interaction with followers. Anies Baswedan utilizes Instagram not only as a communication medium but also to present his self-image to his followers. This study adopts the constructivism paradigm with a qualitative approach and Stuart Hall’s reception analysis method, which categorizes respondents into three groups : dominant readers, negotiated readers, and oppositional readers. Stuart Hall uses three main concepts in its analysis of media, namely Frameworks of knowledge, Relations of productions, and technical infrastructure. The findings reveal that four informants interpreted Anies Baswedan’s messages from dominant hegemonic position, perceiving his posts as inspirational and reflecting authority, credibility, and an educated leadership persona. No informant were found in the negotiated position, as there were no interpretations that explicity showed negotiation of meaning. However, one informant was in the oppositional position, viewing Anies Baswedan’s posts as an effort to maintain a positive image amid controversy. Overall, this study reveals that Instagram serves as a strategic medium for Anies Baswedan to build and sustain his self-image, although audience perceptions of his massages vary depending on their reception positions. Keywords : Reception Analysis, Instagram, Self-image, Anies Baswedan Instagram merupakan salah satu media sosial yang paling banyak digunakan di Indonesia, menawarkan berbagai fitur seperti komentar, likes, unggahan foto dan video, serta interaksi dengan followers. Anies Baswedan memanfaatkan Instagram tidak hanya sebagai media komunikasi, tetapi juga untuk menampilkan citra diri kepada pengikutnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan paradigma konstruktivisme dengan kualitatif dan metode analisis resepsi Stuart Hall, yang membagi responden kedalam tiga kategori : pembaca dominan, pembaca negosiasi, dan pembaca oposisi. Strut Hall menggunakan tiga konsep utama dalam analisisnya terhadap media, yaitu Frameworks of knowledge (Kerangka Pengetahuan), Relations Of Production (Hubungan Produksi), Technical infrastructure (Infrastruktur Teknis). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa empat informan menerima pesan Anies Baswedan dalam posisi hegemoni dominan bahwa empat informan menerima pesan Anies Baswedan dalam posisi hegemoni dominan, menganggap unggahannya inspiratif dan mencerminkan kewibawaan, kredibilitas, serta jiwa kepemimpinan yang berpendidikan. Tidak ditemukan informan yang berada pada posisi negosiasi, karena tidak ada interpretasi yang menunjukkan negosiasi makna secara eksplisit. Namun, satu informan berada pada posisi oposisi, memandang unggahan Anies Baswedan sebagai upaya mempertahankan citra positif di tengah kontroversi. Secara keseluruhan, penelitian ini mengungkap bahwa Instagram menjadi media strategis bagi Anies Baswedan untuk membangun dan mempertahankan citra diri, meskipun persepsi audiens terhadap pesan tersebut bervariasi tergantung pada posisi resepsi mereka.
