Abstract
Aluminum is very important in industry because of its malleability and corrosion resistance. However, to produce aluminum products requires quite high costs, one of which is in the process of smelting the aluminum material. The melting process in the melting furnace machine uses LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) as the main fuel. At this time, the air temperature used for combustion has a low value because there is no preheating process, so it is necessary to add a heat exchanger to increase the temperature through the exhaust of the melting furnace engine. This study aims to determine the effect of the addition of heat exchangers on LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) fuel consumption in aluminum melting furnace machines. Data collection was carried out before and after the installation of the heat exchanger, while the LNG fuel data was obtained from the gas flow monitor & the data of the material to be melted was obtained from weighing aluminum ingots. Data were taken at the same time at 08.00 WIB for 5 days. The result of this study is that the addition of heat exchanger to the melting furnace machine shows that the use of LNG fuel in the melting furnace machine can decrease compared to before the addition of heat exchager, with the result of an average efficiency increase of 17.93%. Keywords: Heat exchanger, melting furnace, aluminum, LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) Aluminium sangat penting dalam industri karena sifatnya yang mudah dibentuk dan tahan korosi. Namun, untuk menghasilkan produk aluminium memerlukan biaya yang cukup tinggi, salah satunya pada proses peleburan material aluminium tersebut. Proses peleburan pada mesin melting furnace menggunakan LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) sebagai bahan bakar utama. Pada saat ini, suhu udara yang digunakan untuk melakukan pembakaran memiliki nilai yang rendah karena tidak dilakukan proses pre-heating, sehingga perlu dilakukan penambahan heat exchanger untuk meningkatkan suhu melalui exhaust mesin melting furnace. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan heat exchanger terhadap konsumsi bahan bakar LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) pada mesin melting furnace aluminium. Pengambilan data dilakukan sebelum dan sesudah pemasangan heat exchanger, adapun pengambilan data bahan bakar LNG didapat dari gas flow monitor & data bahan yang akan dilebur didapat dari penimbangan ingot aluminium. Pengambilan data diambil pada waktu yang sama di jam 08.00 WIB selama 5 hari. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah dengan dilakukan penambahan heat exchanger pada mesin melting furnace menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan bahan bakar LNG pada mesin melting furnace dapat menurun dibandingkan sebelum dilakukan penambahan heat exchager, dengan hasil peningkatan efisiensi rata-rata sebesar 17,93 %.
