Abstract
This study aims to examine the relationship between the Big five Personalities (Neuroticism , Extraversion, Openness to experience, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness) with Body image in college students who use social media. Body image is an individual's perception of their physical appearance, which can be influenced by various factors, including personality and social media exposure. In this study, data were collected from 368 college students who actively use social media through a survey method using the Big five Inventory (BFI-2) questionnaire and the Multidimensional Body Self-Relations Questionnaire - Appearance Scales (MBSRQ-AS). All data analysis in this study used IBM SPSS and Jamovi v.2.3.28 The results showed that of the five personality dimensions, only Neuroticism had a significant effect on Body image dissatisfaction. Individuals with high levels of Neuroticism are more susceptible to experiencing dissatisfaction with their physical appearance, especially when exposed to ideal beauty standards on social media. In contrast, other personality types such as Extraversion, Openness to experience, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness did not show a significant effect on body image. This study concludes that Neuroticism is a key factor influencing negative perceptions of Body image in college students who use social media. This finding emphasizes the importance of considering personality factors in understanding how social media affects body perception and psychological well-being in college students. Keywords: Big five personality, Neuroticism , body image, social media, college students Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji peran Big five personality (Neuroticism , Extraversion, Openness to experience, Agreeableness, dan Conscientiousness) dalam Body image pada mahasiswa pengguna media sosial.
