Abstract
Film is often used by storytellers to convey various messages to the audience, including social life messages and the goal of achieving harmony in life. The film "II: An Unspoken Narrative" is a dialogue-free film that relies solely on movement or choreography in each scene, telling the story of a man living alone while learning the concept of balance in an unconventional way, involving two different concepts. The aim of this research is to understand how viewers interpret the harmony of life in the YouTube short film "II: An Unspoken Narrative." This study employs the concept of Chinese Harmony Communication Theory proposed by Guo Ming Chen. The paradigm used is constructivism. The approach taken is qualitative, utilizing Stuart Hall's reception analysis method, which highlights the dominant hegemonic position, negotiation, and opposition in student reception. The research was conducted through in-depth interviews with six informants, who are Broadcasting students from Mercu Buana University. The results indicate that the dominant interpretation of harmony communication within the dominant hegemonic position successfully aligns with the storyline and objectives of the film "II: An Unspoken Narrative." In the negotiation position, informants expressed a range of perspectives. Meanwhile, in the opposition position, some informants felt dissatisfied with certain aspects of the film's presentation. Overall, this diversity of interpretation reflects the influence of the informants' social backgrounds, cultural values, and personal experiences. Film sering kali digunakan oleh penulis cerita untuk menyampaikan berbagai pesan kepada penonton, termasuk pesan tentang kehidupan sosial dan tujuan mencapai harmoni dalam kehidupan. Film II: Unspoken Narrative merupakan film yang tidak memiliki dialog dalam adegan mana pun hanya ada gerakan atau koreografi di setiap scene yang bercerita tentang seorang laki-laki menjalani hidup sendirian sambil mempelajari konsep keseimbangan dengan cara yang tidak konvensional di mana dua konsep berbeda. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memahami bagaimana penonton memaknai harmoni kehidupan dalam Film Pendek Youtube II: An Unspoken Narrative. Penelitian ini menggunakan konsep teori Chinese Harmony Communication yang dikemukakan oleh Guo Ming Chen. Paradigma yang digunakan yaitu konstruktivisme. Pendekatan yang dilakukan yaitu kualitatif dengan metode analisis resepsi Stuart Hall yang menyoroti posisi dominan hegemoni, negosiasi, dan oposisi dalam resepsi mahasiswa. Penelitian dilakukan melalui wawancara mendalam dengan enam informan yaitu mahasiswa Broadcasting Universitas Mercu Buana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa harmoni komunikasi interpretasi dominan dalam posisi dominant hegemonic konsep harmonisasi komunikasi dalam film II: An Unspoken Narrative berhasil diterima dan dipahami sesuai dengan alur cerita dan tujuan film ini. Pada posisi negosiasi, informan memiliki beragam pandangan. Sementara pada posisi oposisi, beberapa informan merasa tidak puas dengan beberapa penyampaian dalam film tersebut. Secara keseluruhan, keragaman pemaknaan ini mencerminkan pengaruh latar belakang sosial, nilai-nilai budaya, dan pengalaman pribadi informan.
