Abstract
Media Exposure is a situation where a person is exposed to a message conveyed through the media. The media used is communication media which becomes a bridge in conveying messages between the communicator and the communicant. This is closely related to the communication process that occurs within the learning environment of Mercu Buana University students through the blended learning method, which uses WhatsApp communication media as an intermediary in delivering messages over long distances. The research period in this study is September – December 2022. In this time period, Mercu Buana University began implementing the blended learning method after two years of being hampered by the Covid-19 pandemic. The aim of this research is to determine and explain the influence of exposure to blended learning communication media on increasing the communication competence of Mercu Buana University students. The theory used is Media Exposure with dimensions, namely frequency, duration and attention. The second theory is Communication Competence with dimensions namely motivation, knowledge and skills. This type of research is quantitative research with survey methods and purposive sampling techniques. The research sample was 190, namely active students of the Faculty of Communication Sciences, T.A. 2020 Regular 1 Mercu Buana University Meruya. The data analysis techniques used are validity and reliability tests, simple linear regression tests, correlation and determinant coefficient tests, and hypothesis testing (t test). The research results show that there is a positive or strong influence of Media Exposure on Communication Competence of 81.6%, the remaining 18.4% is influenced by other variables not studied. In hypothesis testing, the Sig value was obtained. 0.000 < 0.050 and the calculated t value is 28,854 > 1.96, meaning that there is an influence of Media Exposure on Communication Competence. Based on the results of the highest accumulated score in the Duration dimension, it shows that students are exposed to media based on their willingness to spend time working on forums and quizzes given by lecturers for around 1 hour for each course via UMB e-learning and UMB POST. Keywords: Media Exposure, Communication Competence, Communication Media, Students. Terpaan merupakan keadaan dimana seseorang terkena suatu pesan yang disampaikan melalui media. Media yang digunakan berupa media komunikasi yang menjadi jembatan dalam penyampaian pesan antara komunikator dengan komunikan. Hal ini erat kaitannya dengan proses komunikasi yang terjadi dalam lingkup pembelajaran mahasiswa Universitas Mercu Buana melalui metode blended learning, yang menggunakan media komunikasi whatsapp, e-learning UMB, dan POST UMB. Periodisasi riset dalam penelitian ini yaitu pada bulan September – Desember 2022. Pada rentang waktu tersebut, Universitas Mercu Buana mulai menerapkan metode blended learning setelah dua tahun terhambat pandemi Covid-19. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui dan menjelaskan Pengaruh Terpaan Media Komunikasi Blended Learning Terhadap Peningkatan Kompetensi Komunikasi Mahasiswa Universitas Mercu Buana. Teori yang digunakan yaitu Terpaan Media dengan dimensi, yaitu frekuensi, durasi, dan atensi. Teori kedua yaitu Kompetensi Komunikasi dengan dimensi yaitu motivasi, pengetahuan, dan keterampilan. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan metode survey dan teknik penarikan sampel purposive sampling. Sampel penelitian sejumlah 190 yaitu mahasiswa aktif Fakultas Ilmu Komunikasi T.A. 2020 Reguler 1 Universitas Mercu Buana Meruya. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan yaitu uji validitas dan reliabilitas, uji regresi linear sederhana, uji korelasi dan koefisien determinan, dan uji hipotesis (uji t). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh yang positif atau kuat Terpaan Media terhadap Kompetensi Komunikasi sebesar 81.6%, sisanya sebesar 18.4% dipengaruhi oleh variabel lain yang tidak diteliti. Dalam uji hipotesis, didapatkan hasil nilai Sig. 0,000 < 0,050 dan nilai t hitung sebesar 28.854 > 1.96, artinya terdapat pengaruh Terpaan Media terhadap Kompetensi Komunikasi. Berdasarkan hasil akumulasi skor tertinggi pada dimensi Durasi, menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa terkena terpaan media berdasarkan kesediaan menghabiskan waktunya untuk mengerjakan forum dan kuis yang diberikan oleh dosen sekitar 1 jam untuk setiap mata kuliah melalui e-learning UMB dan POST UMB.
